Company pitches .US domains to small businesses.
Neustar, the registry for the .us country code domain name, has launched a new marketing strategy today aimed at small businesses.
As part of the new branding the company has relaunched About.us and created a new URL at KickstartAmerica.us (which just forwards to a campaign page on About.us). The campaign page explains how small businesses can “Get online easier” with the .US Small Business Toolkit, which is really just a quick overview about getting a domain, building a web site, and promoting the web site.
Neustar says it undertook an extensive research study to understand the target market for the .us domain. Here’s how it describes the “.US target market”
They are the people you interact with every day. At least, we hope you do. They are the small businesses who are the backbone of America. They are the second generation hardware store in Memphis, the florist shop in St. Louis, the cupcake shop in Austin, the accountant in Topeka. We talked to them.
This .US marketing effort was promised Several Years Ago.
Good to see it has finally begun.
Hopefully, this is only the beginning (and not the complete campaign).
Let’s hope they understand this needs to be followed up with LOT’S of online, TV and offline media advertising.
Amen!
Maybe they are a little late, not so much though, just 10 YEARS.
Kickstarter.com should UDRP this domain. Obviously these guys are playing on the newly signed “Crowdfunding” legislation and the pioneer of this business segment, Kickstarter.com.
Would love to see a UDRP go against a registrar!
Finally! The .us extension has serious potential, though I’m a bit cynical about NeuStar’s intentions. But given the slew of new gTLDs about to be unleashed into the world, now is as good a time as any to ‘reintroduce’ an old TLD to the public.
A good idea.
Wonder why they have done this more.
Hope they havent just done this to help them win another extension of their contract if up for renewal. Class action time if so again.
