Time flies when you’re having fun.
Seven years ago today I wrote the first post on Domain Name Wire.
When I started Domain Name Wire the domain industry media landscape was very different. The only online publication was Ron Jackson’s DNJournal. Ron focused (and still focuses) on profiles and sales reports rather than breaking news and analysis. Ron will tell you this was a conscious decision he made based on his years in the news business, because breaking and daily news is a pain. I was too naive to understand that. So I started a daily news site for the domain industry.
I made the decision to start the blog on a plane ride from New York to Austin. I had spent the previous week in New York working on what was to become iREIT, the domain portfolio buyer that made a big splash last decade before hitting hard times.
Before boarding the plane I had a heart-to-heart discussion in the airline lounge with the other two (to-be) founders of the company. I walked out of that meeting having dropped out of the company. It just wasn’t the right opportunity for me.
But I wanted to do something more in the domain industry than just be a domainer. So that’s when Domain Name Wire was born. First as a hobby; then as a business.
Many thanks to all of my readers and advertisers. This blog wouldn’t exist without you.
To seven more years!
