Dudu.com sells for an incredible $1 million.
Wow.
Social network DUDU has paid a whopping $1 million for the domain name Dudu.com, upgrading its domain name from GoDudu.com.
The site “uses unique translation technology to allow its users from around the world to communicate with each other in their native languages”, according to a press release.
The deal was brokered by domain name marketplace Sedo and took three months of negotiations.
A press release from Sedo quotes Dudu Chairman Alibek Issaev about the importance of the domain name:
“With the purchase of dudu.com, we will be able to match our platform’s brand with the exact domain name we need, and migrate from using godudu.com to this shorter version. This purchase means we don’t lose important traffic, and at the same time we ensure that visitors from around the globe will remember our brand’s name.â€
The seller is based in China and had not listed the domain for sale.
That’s a heck of a price for this domain name and just goes to show that the circumstance of a sale — a dedicated buyer without a choice in name — can drive a price up.
