A start-up spends 1% of its recent funding round on a domain name and other interesting domain name purchases.
It’s time for the weekly roundup of end user domain name purchases.
Let’s start with in-app mobile payments startup Zooz. The company snagged $1.5 million in funding in November. How better to use the money than to buy Zooz.com? Actually, it only had to use 1% of the money to buy the domain for $15,000 at Sedo. The company’s domain name to date has been Zooz.co.
The American Dietetic Association bought AmericanDieteticSassocation.com for $1,488 at Afternic. Its main URL is EatRight.org.
Here’s an interesting one. Merchant services company Leaders Merchant Services bought SquareCardReader.com for $1,000 at Afternic and SquareCreditCardReader.com for $735 at Sedo. I suspect it would be fairly easy for Square to get these domain names from it.
Conservative group Young America’s Foundation bought ConservativeStudent.com for $2,016 and ConservativeStudents.com for $2,316 at Afternic.
The owner of ShortTermHousing.com bought FurnishedApartments.org for $2,488 at Afternic.
Mainlab Technologies improved its international footprint with MainLab.com for $2,500 at Afternic. The company uses MainLab.ca as its domain name.
Another Canadian company, Radiation Solutions, Inc., added a .com to complement its .ca. It bought RadiationSolutions.com for $4,500 at Afternic.
EB Brands, a maker and marketer of niche products including several niche gift stores, bought Gifts2Give.com at Afternic for $1,200.

zooz.com was a smart end user buy, I think. Attractive, very brandable, and easy to remember.
It would be good, though, if they also owned zoos.com
🙂
