Fixed price Afternic listings to be featured on Go Daddy registration path.
Customers who sell domain names through Afternic are about to get a lot more exposure.
Afternic has struck a deal with Go Daddy to start showing its fixed price listings in the Go Daddy registration path. The listings will show up whenever someone searches for the exact domain name that is offered for sale.
The integration, which will go live later tonight or on Monday, will provide added exposure to domains sold through Afternic’s Expanded or Premium level that have a fixed price.
Go Daddy customers who wish to purchase the domains will be sent to GoDaddy Auctions to complete the purchase. The deal does not provide for instant transfer; domains sold will go through Afternic’s escrow process.
The exposure is similar to domains already listed with GoDaddy auctions, but domain owners will be able to just list on Afternic and manage all of their domains from one interface rather than listing through two systems and still get the exposure.
Afternic’s minimum commission is 15%. Customers who park their domain names with Afternic receive a 5% rebate on the commission.
This is outstanding news. I hope the visibility of the exact match domain names will be very good. At last glance, “premium” names at GoDaddy took some looking around to be able to find.
Why do godaddy customers pay 30%, while afternic customers pay 15%, godaddy is ripping off its in house clients, and yet afternic still gets a cut out of the 15%, so they are being charged even less by godaddy.
it was months ago when i tried to list a domain via GD auctions and it said ‘domain already for sale’… i asked the GD CS and it said buydomains has my domain listed with them. buydomains is afternic yeah? so i think it’s been going on for quite a while. nevertheless, it’s great to officially know from DNW 🙂
I have listed the majority of my names at GoDaddy for the last year.
Once I get a good look at this I see GoDaddy losing a customer for sure.
following on Ryan’s point, it would seem like I should now remove all my Premium Listings from GoDaddy and just upload all to Afternic, at half the commission.
Recall that GoDaddy started listing auctions in the registration path a couple months ago. This is a similar thing, so the commission isn’t really undercutting GD (since GD’s auction commission is lower than Afternic’s last time I checked). I still think that GD Premium is the “best” exposure you can get on GD since it has instant purchase and transfer.
Hi all,
We’re excited to be extending the same level of exposure to our Afternic listers as our Go Daddy Auctions listers have enjoyed for months with great results. Please note, though, that this is not fast transfer integration, so comparisons to premium listings are not apples to apples.

“Recall that GoDaddy started listing auctions in the registration path a couple months ago.”
wasn’t aware of this. are GD Auctions with a BIN (fixed price) able to be instant transfered through the registration path? if so, then i guess i’ll rephrase my initial response, to “it would seem like i should now remove all my Premium Listings and just add all to GD Auction.”
So what about fast transfer you still have to wait 45 days for payment via Check… I would rather close via afternic at 15-20% and get my money in 2 weeks, then pay 30% and wait 2 months, apples to apples hmmm?
Mike, no instant xfr on auction domains.
“Mike, no instant xfr on auction domains.”
still, if they are put in the same registration path it should = getting in front of the same exact eyeballs, except i can price the domains down by 20% since the commission is that much lower (GDA 10% vs GDPL 30%)and with the lower pricing potentially sell more domains. in that case i don’t mind handling the transfers.
Mike, makes a solid point, if the end user wants the domain he will jump through the transfer hurdle to get it, but you can price 20% lower, on $1000 down, it will be much more appealing at $800 than $1000, when the seller gets the same profit margin.
I called godaddy on this, they don’t even know what is going on over there yet.
It is obvious GD is dropping prem listing commission to 20% now, only makes sense.
Does this apply to domains in all extensions?
