.XXX domain names coming soon to Go Daddy.
In a major win for ICM Registry, Go Daddy announced today that it will offer .xxx domain names to its customers.
From the press release:
“We’ve said from the beginning … when it comes to dotXXX, we are going to listen to our customers,” said Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons. “A large number of our customers have spoken … and there is a demand for the controversial new domain name extension – for both brand protection purposes and for new names. So what are we going to do? Go Daddy is going to give our customers what they want!”
Offering the controversial domain name was not a forgone conclusion for the world’s biggest registrar. Go Daddy founder Bob Parsons had previously said he wasn’t sure if the company would carry the domain name and that adult registrations are only a small part of its business. At the end of the day I’m sure it makes sense for Go Daddy to carry the domain name because there will be significant demand — both defensively and by adult webmasters.
The domain name registrar registers about half of all new domain name registrations. Getting a deal with the registrar is considered crucial to the success of any mainstream top level domain name.
As hundreds of new top level domain names come onto the scene over the next few years the competition for registrar shelf space will become even greater. It’s possible registries will have to literally pay-to-play.

after i got a flood of requests from clients last year after the Brussel Icann meeting there was no way to ignore this TLD.
I ignored .co due to lil demand back then .. Maybe i was a wrong there still not sure..
When .CO was announced there weren’t to many requests for it here in Europe.
But with .XXX i got hammered down to secure .xxx for clients .
So GD jumping on .xxx makes sense. Since they are so large they prolly had alot of demand for it. pure speculation here but seeing how Bob Parson acts if there is no money tobe made he won’t touch it ..This same game as you willbe played out with the new gTLD’s that are going tobe released in 2012.
.CO relies heavilly on registrars that promote the ccTLD. A strategy that seems to workout so far. .XXX will go full force ahead and prolly trash those numbers.
But if this all in all a good thing i am not sure. Net neutrality mightbe an issue here.

It is already a big demand for the .xxx domains as we all know that sex is probably the most searched word on google . This is the world we live in and we have to deal with it .

Back when I developed adult sites, I might have been interested in this. I agree that google will bury the in their results, and/or have a new setting to turn them on or off.

Godady.com do not currently allow porn on their hosting. Does this mean godaddy will in future provide hosting for porn?
Andrew Allemann says
@ Gary – I checked with Go Daddy on this. Adult content is allowed on their hosting but not on the free/ad supported hosting.

In answer to Gary, has just decided to include the .xxx domains for sale.
Also, I don’t see .xxx burying the .coms. Godaddy has nothing to do with that and Google will not give .xxx Priority over the coveted .Coms atleast for some years.
