More exposure for domains listed on Go Daddy Auctions.
Go Daddy has started to show domain names that are listed on its auction platform to users searching for available domain names.
For example, if you try to register Branson365.com, you’ll see this:
This will drastically increase the exposure domain names on the Go Daddy Auctions platform receive.
Not all of the domains I checked that are on Go Daddy Auctions showed up when I searched for the exact domain name, however.
There are still benefits to Go Daddy Premium Listings, which put your domain name in front of buyers when they search for your exact domain name.
First, Premium Listings allow buyers to immediately buy the domain name through the shopping cart. Non-Premium Listings require users to purchase a Go Daddy Auctions membership and then buy the domain name through a more laborious process.
Second, Premium Listings enjoy instant transfer whereas auctions require you to complete the transfer.
Still, the approximately 25% difference in commission between the platforms is substantial.
It will be interesting to see how Go Daddy tinkers with this going forward.
Hi Andrew, glad you like the feature. My goal is to expose the aftermarket to as many end users as possible, this is just one more step towards that.
Paul, can you explain when domains will show up on the registration path that are in auctions? I couldn’t lay a finger on why some domains show up and others don’t.
Sure, right now we’re only showing Auctions that are listed by our customers directly rather than through a partner listing service like AfterNic.
@ Paul – thanks, makes sense
It appears you have to search for that specific domain including the extension. For example if I look up a random three letter .com. A message will not display if the same three letter combo is available at auction in another extension (.net, .biz, .info, .us, etc). I can see .com lookups getting quite a bit of exposure. Probably far less likely for other extensions.
Ya if you could show the names in other extensions too, that’ll be great and probably will get the premium listings much more attention.
Paul,
Any timeline when GD might allow other TLD’s into premium listings like .US?
Steven
@Steven – There isn’t currently a timeline for adding additional TLDs to the premium listings sales channel. But, if you were to list your .US domains on Auctions it would get the same exposure as a premium listing. The main difference being that premiums allow users to purchase directly from the availcheck page rather than redirecting them to Auctions.
Good idea
It makes sense for GoDaddy to NOT list domains from Afternic’s DLS program.
Based on tests conducted at eNom, the only domains Afternic DLS makes available through that registration path are those owned by Afternic affiliates such as RareNames and therefore are often less relevant than those listed in the DLS by individual sellers.
I can’t see GoDaddy falling for such bait-and-switch tactics because it wouldn’t be financially beneficial. Inventory from RareNames is so limited that most potential buyers will not find the DLS experience worthwhile.
If you have any domains in Afternic’s Premium DLS program, you can test them yourself at participating registrars (hint).

That’s not true. They list all domains at the Premium Listing level on eNom. I sold a domain through Afternic on eNom.
