New phishing email tries to get Go Daddy customers to give away account details.
I received a phishing email today that I haven’t seen before.
Titled “Notice about GODADDY account activation”, it won’t fool most internet users. But it could certainly dupe some people.
The message reads:
Dear Godaddy User:
This notification is generated automatically as a service to you because you subscribe to DomainAlert.
Because of the Comprehensive upgrade of the website system, please log in and re-activate your account.
Official Go Daddy communications always include your customer number.
The phishing email sends users to WorkGodaddy.com, which has a whois record indicating the owner is in China.
[Update: Go Daddy shut down this phishing attempt. But keep in mind it’s easy for someone to change the URL and try it again. Be careful.]
Got one of these today, I immediately notified my account manager about it. Seems to be totally new because they haven’t heard about it.
Interesting to see this one going around. It seems like the scammers have moved away from the fake GoDaddy ICANN emails.
A word is enough for the wise.

I hope most of us know NOT to link to our accounts through an email link.
