Take advantage of one of the best domain sales channels.
I was quick to jump on the bandwagon when Afternic announced its new instant transfer partners for Premium Promotion last year.
With Premium Promotion you can list a domain name that you have at, say Moniker, directly in the sales path at other partner registrars such as eNom. When someone searches for the domain name at eNom they can add it to their shopping cart and buy it instantly.
That’s exactly what happened last week. I received an email saying I sold MyLaunchpad.com for $6,800.
I had the domain at Moniker and someone bought it through eNom.
The other nice thing about selling an instant transfer domain like this is that I didn’t have to lift a finger to complete the transfer. It all happened instantaneously in the background.
Afternic Premium already has four of the top ten domain registrars in its network and recently expanded with a number of European registrars. It’s great news for domainers as this list gets bigger.
Here are some other sales from Afternic over the past week. I’m sure some of them were purchased in the same way.
sincerely.com $20,000
tview.com $19,550
funlink.com $16,000
fearnoevil.com $6,500
VMed.com $6,300
amnion.com $6,000
mountainholidays.com $5,995
trat.com $5,900
marketsmarts.com $5,500
onedesk.com $5,000
Greenchat.com $5,000
webtrack.com $5,000
In case you’re wondering, I bought the domain in an uncontested drop a couple years ago. I found the name through the drop lists at FreshDrop.
Jamie says
Congrats on the sale Andrew! I love the idea of the instant transfer and I think it should be promoted to end users as an extra sales pitch. (for those who do not find the domain the way yours was)
RKB says
Is fabulous.com part of this?
Andrew Allemann says
RKB – no, although maybe they’ll get on board now that they’re using eNom’s back end
RKB says
@ Andrew
I hope so. That will be great.
Btw, I assume you have to have your domains priced for instant transfer (and perhaps there is a cap on pricing also)?
Andrew Allemann says
@ RKB – Yes, they have to be a fixed price. I think they only get reviewed if they’re over $20k or something like that.
Elevator says
congratulation on your sale. How can one enjoy such promotion, is the gate still open?
Andrew Allemann says
@ Elevator – you can sign up and list at Premium any time – http://www.afternic.com/promotion-upgrade.php
Bob Mountain - NameMedia says
@RKB – The price limit on Premium Promotion names is $25K.
RKB says
@ Bob
Thanks for your response.
Q: So what if we want prices on some domains to be over $25k? Is it possible?
Gnanes says
Congrats on the sale. Any luck with Godaddy Premium Listing?
Andrew Allemann says
@ Gnanes – I sold another Go Daddy premium listing last week. It was only $400 but I’ll take it.
Meyer says
Andrew, congratulations on the sale.
I assume $ 6,800. was the gross.
And, $ 5,440. was your net.
Unless, you had the domain parked with
NM and they gave you 5% reduction in
commission.
However, since you are involved with
BigJumbo I assume you have your domains
parked there.
Andrew Allemann says
@ Meyer – yes, commission was 20%.
Ellen O'Brien -- Afternic says
A note for interested sellers: the $25K limit is only for DLS Premium listings using Fast Transfer–the instant checkout pioneered by Aftenic.
Those who have names above $25k can still list and sell their names on the Afternic DLS network, but just not in the Instant Transfer program.

John Humphrey says
Would be very interested to hear how you thought about pricing that domain. Obviously it wasn’t too high – it sold! But I would have probably priced it somewhere around $2500. Do you use any metrics or is it more of a gut feeling.
Andrew Allemann says
@ John – this one was just a gut feel. I thought about who the end customer would be. A lot of my other domains are priced lower, but I figure the buyer of those is a small, local business that won’t spend more than $2k on a domain.
M. Menius says
I would be interested to hear users’ recommendations for the best registrar to use for accessing Afternic’s DLS Premium Service for domain sales.
Andrew Allemann says
@ M. Menius – there are a number of registrars, but the two largest registrars on the list that are domainer focused are eNom and Moniker.
JW says
I’d love to see a blogpost comparing each of different domain listing services that put offers in front of users in the registration path. Ie, Afternic versus Godaddy etc.
Andrew Allemann says
@ JW – slightly dated but the key terms are the same:
