Lots of new domain registrations seek to take advantage of Charlie Sheen’s news making ability.
Whenever a celebrity starts making news you can rest assured that domain registrants see an opportunity.
With Charlie Sheen’s downward spiral some people think they can make money from it. GoDaddy has registered nearly 1,000 domain names involving Charlie Sheen in the past week alone.
You see this sort of thing with celebrity deaths and tragic events, but this is somewhat unusual. I guess you could call it a “personally tragic event”.
But people registering these domains are unlikely to cash in. Domains like this are very hard to sell (what’s the market?) and most of them receive little traffic that can be monetized.
