Lots of new domain registrations seek to take advantage of Charlie Sheen’s news making ability.
Whenever a celebrity starts making news you can rest assured that domain registrants see an opportunity.
With Charlie Sheen’s downward spiral some people think they can make money from it. GoDaddy has registered nearly 1,000 domain names involving Charlie Sheen in the past week alone.
You see this sort of thing with celebrity deaths and tragic events, but this is somewhat unusual. I guess you could call it a “personally tragic event”.
But people registering these domains are unlikely to cash in. Domains like this are very hard to sell (what’s the market?) and most of them receive little traffic that can be monetized.
UnemployedWinner.com was likely the best registration IMO. (term used in his bio) I even tried to get it, but was beat out by a day.
The term is catchy and just because your unemployed doesn’t mean you can’t be a winner!
All the CharlieSheenBlahBlahBlah.com domains are junk for sure!
They are getting creative. I checked and this one was already registered:
domain guy says
this shows the mentality of domainers that fail to understand the market, generating traffic or building a business.
especially when we all read that sheen has over a million twitter followers in less than 5 days.this is the type of junk domain sherpa should write an article about educating these people.
these people are lost in space.it shows how far off the beam these people are and fail to understand the intrinsic value of a domains.
http://www.livingthesheen.com is the best out there. boom, that’s life.
Good points Andrew, torpedoesoftruth.com got regged like within an hour of the Ustream show. There is no market for these domains. Andrew do you think this nonsense helps keep the negative domainer stereotype ?
Sheen got to 1,000,000 followers in 25 hours new record, now over 2.3 million followers. Its crazy
