Another .me domain name sells for big bucks.
Go Daddy Auctions has handled the sale of Whisper.me for $17,5000.
I must admit that I continue to be taken aback by sales of .me domain names. Sure, some of them are catchy. But whisper.me doesn’t have the same ring as love.me or call.me.
And even if with the cuteness factor, some of the prices paid for these has just caught me by surprise.
Surely the ones that don’t take advantage of the play on ‘.me’ will see their prices fall as hundreds of new TLDs come online in the next couple years?
The domain name was sold by Brands-and-Jingles.
Here are some other notable sales at Go Daddy auctions over the past week:
MCEO.com $10,000
SeeGeorgiaRealEstate.com $5,815
Wallo.com $5,488
JumpingMouse.com $5,188
Nucleare.com $4,788
Palinfo.com $4,388
I actually like whisper.me! It has a certain cache’ and gentle ring to it.
A healthy price for sure though – BUT – a bargain compared to the .com.
You know, the dirty little secret is that this name will dominate (even with the .me suffix) because as usual, the .com, .net., and .org are nothing but parked pages.
It’s easy to compete with any suffix when the .com holder is sleeping at the switch with a parked page.
correct, you see this alot. not exlusive to .ME though.
picked up a few .org domains developed it. and it works like a charm. .net/com all parked
I would have prefered with that money to have bought a .me domain name word like for example Magnate .Me – is more brandable.
Surely, no other new TLD be shorter and more appealing than dot-me – hence the interest.
at the end a domain is worth as much as the buyer is willing to pay for.
I have some doubts as the legitimacy of this sale and of many .me sales actually. Take love.me for example, it has been said to be sold many times and yet it still redirects to domain.me.
Or more recently truly.me, another Brands-and-Jingles domain which sold a few weeks ago for some 10-20K but the whois record hasn’t been changed, Brands-and-Jinges is still shown as the registrant.
This doesn’t look good to me.
@Paul,
whisper.me was sold and transferred, and whois was updated accordingly.
truly.me was sold but not yet transferred. Sedo will do it any other moment soon (may take a week or so).
You are very right about love.me – it was initially sold during one of the first premium events organised by the registry, but then was not paid for. So hence the registry autioned it for the second time.
A propos, while love.me was waiting for the buyer, Brands-and-Jingles managed to buy and sell luv.me, which was consecuentially bought by an Italian investor.
@Sure.ly
Fair enough but then may I ask whois the new registrant of whisper.me?
As for love.me, it happened twice.
Well, the new owner is using GoDaddy’s proxy for privacy. Good luck cracking it down.
Yes, we may see love.me coming back. It is a good name after all. Worth more than 32k.
After six month, it is still in top 100 sales YTD: http://www.dnjournal.com/ytd-sales-charts.htm
