Registrar group hits another milestone.
Yesterday at 6:02 PM MST, The Go Daddy Group topped 45 million domain names under management across its registrars. This comes about 9 months after the company crossed the 40 million mark.
This is an incredible accomplishment, as the nearest competitor has about 10 million domain names under management. There are just over 200 million domain names registered worldwide, meaning that Go Daddy has over a fifth of the market. It also claims to register about half of all new domain name registrations.
Companies like to look at revenue per employee as a benchmark. This is certainly a good measure. But Go Daddy might also look at domains registered per employee. With 2900 employees, that’s 15,517 per employee. Not bad.
The Go Daddy Group’s two main registrars are GoDaddy.com and Wild West Domains.
sometimes we get a little numb to stats and numbers, cuz we see so much day in and day out… but WOW, that is officially a staggering number of domain names!
Wow – impressive results.
A win for the domain industry
A win for consumers
and a win for GoDaddy.
One of the many consumer benefits which would have been difficult to derive without a policy of Vertical Separation!
It’s going to be interesting to see the reasoning for ICANN’s recent decision to move future gTLDs away from the model under which companies like GoDaddy have been able to thrive.
Why don’t you have a share button on your blog pages so I can easily post this to my Facebook to share?
@Brad CTRL+C CTRL+V URL 😉
@ Andrew “15,517 per employee. Not bad” I wander how much profit you can generate out of 15,000 domain?
@ Mansour – not much. But you can generate a lot out of the other stuff those people buy.
@ Daniel – That is exactly what I did within about 10 seconds of posting this comment. A lot of people would choose not to share however because of this. I think it is a great feature for blogs to get more exposure. I was just trying to make a suggestion to Andrew that could help his already excellent blog.
