U.S.-based registrar has taken no action against WikiLeaks.org domain name, but is facing pressure from both sides.
Amazon booted Wikileaks from its cloud hosting services. Everydns kicked out the site thanks to distributed denial of service attacks. But the domain name WikiLeaks.org remains in the hands of the underground organization as domain name registrar DynaDot has not taken any action on the domain.
Earlier today I reached out to DynaDot founder and president Todd Han. I asked him if his company had taken any action with regards to the domain name and if it was facing pressure to do so. Han responded:
Yes, wikileaks.org is still registered at Dynadot. As you can tell from the whois lookup, we have taken no action against the domain. And yes we are experiencing significant pressure regarding the domain, both to keep it up and to take it down.
Dynadot previously faced a court order to remove the name servers for the domain, but it was later reverse.
Gnanes says
Pretty soon they’re going to put pressure to shut down the facebook fan page and twitter account.
Einstein says
What pressure? WTF is this? Did they pay the bill? Yes. Did they violate any terms? Not really.
So why is Dynadot asked to play god with it.
Andrew Allemann says
@ Einstein – basically every registrar has terms of service that would let them shut down a domain if they wanted to. Just a quick look at DynaDot’s TOS shows many things they could get Wikileaks for.

Obviously they (wiki) is providing a long overdue service. Hopefully they will be able to continue reporting facts. It’s the mis-facts spewed by our “leaders” that needs to be checked. Go wiki go.
p.s. you can donate to their defense fund if you like http://wikileaks.ch/support.html
they’re back up for now. 🙂
Dave Zan says
Todd, if you’re reading this, good luck on this one. Must be your toughest challenge yet. 🙂
Troy says
Keep it up!
NotSocialist says
Todd, do not remove the domain from Dynadot and when it all settles down do a post on how you protect the domains at your place.
The “person” behind this whole thing is US. They will do nothing to you, as it’s in their interest to run those “leaks”. Your registrar will look good after all.

this battle against WikiLeaks’ domains is simply ridiculous, since the leaked cables already are everywhere

Or they don’t need any excuses, just refund their $9.99 or whatever they paid for the year. We know that you give up your first born son, and then some, on each contract but selective enforcing is not the way to go. Dynadot should suspend this when NYtimes.com, Guardian.co.uk, speigel.de etc etc get their domains suspended. They are doing the same thing, publishing the same cables…stolen, treasonous, illegal, blah blah or whatever.

I’m moving some names over to dynadot.
Well done.

If our leaders of today would be decent and honest then there would be No websites like wikileaks.nl Humanity has not learned a lesson from the past – Scum idiots are empowered into gOvernment like Clinton and bush thugs – how can scum like that sleep peaceful at night time when this idiots have blood on their hands in Iraq – wmd? Afghanistan – what for ?
The world is going towards a new world fascist order – I salute Julian A. and wikileaks.
Check out the first video on my website enslaving.net and this are the fascist scum that is in charge of the Government and private sector

All the focus is on Wiki Leaks rather than the actual information released lets see the 70,000 civilian deaths in Iraq, Russia being a mafia state, Hilary Clinton spying on the UN and the list goes on. If America had an independent media that wasn’t dictated too by its powerbrokers then we wouldn’t even need Wiki leaks whose only crime is the reporting of the truth and the dark ugliness of its World leaders.

Should dynadot determine what is legal and what is not ? Only a court should have this power.
Come on.. You did not support Godaddy before for doing the same – Your topic on godaddy-squashes-ratemycopcom and godaddy-faces-pr-nightmare-over-domain-suspension.
when Godaddy randomly shuts down some sites, there will be a huge cry against them, even if the sites did break their terms of service. But now why are people after Dynadot ?

Amazon, Paypal, when will someone have the backbone to stand up for freedom. What he need is leadership within DynaDot, I hope Todd has the foresight to see history will treat him kindly if he does not interfere with Wikileaks. I look forward to Amazon, Paypal et al. featuring in the next Chomsky book!

Dynadot always been my favorite registrar. I will register more at Dynadot from now on. But where will I buy books ?

I salute wikileaks. He is putting his life under risk & trying to bring the truth of bad policy of US Army to kill innocent public @ iraq / afgan. Even they are not doing by themselves. They are all forced to do by the politicians for oil & their own benefit. I support dynadot. I have few domains with them. Hope to move many to them. God Jesus. Please please put a full stop to the war criminals. In USA every $ bill says ” In god we trust”. But its only in wordings. Not in reality. Jesus said to show your face even hitted. But US politicians want the wars to sell weapons. They make army to do these sin / crime. What do you think peers? Who created bin laden? Who was the best partner of him? All Senior Bush. Now his son wanted to kill him. For their own interest & earning, they put even the Jesus in question.

Dear Mr. Todd Han,
Please do the right thing, you know what it is. This is a decision of epic historical significance.

Why hasn’t the registrar record been updated to point to new name servers after Wikileaks was kicked off EveryDNS? Clearly Wikileaks has new DNS, which they’re using for wikileaks.ch. It should be a simple matter to use it for wikileaks.org as well. Is Dynadot preventing the update?
Andrew Allemann says
@ Keith – that confuses me as well. Wikileaks hasn’t been blocked from going in and changing the DNS, so why not just change it to the new host?
Keith Ivey says
When I say “registrar record” I really mean the record in the DNS root servers, but the update for that usually goes through the registrar.

Root servers are in America – bad idea #1. Wikileaks.org could indeed just point to new DNS so it seems there must be a court order making DynaDot stop updates to the main domain record, otherwise WikiLeaks would move it over in seconds. That is very bad indeed, and shows how evil America is. They fear the truth so much. Luckily, they will lose. Truth always wins.
