Changes in Karate.com and Perfume.com plans.
Live Current Media is making some changes.
First, back in August the company terminated a venture with Rob Monster’s Domain Strategies, Inc. to co-develop the Karate.com domain name. The agreement was originally inked on May 15, 2009. The two parties decided to discontinue the venture and the domain name was returned to Live Current.
Second, Live Current’s new management is changing course on the company’s Perfume.com plans. Previous management had decided to change the site from a discount online perfume and fragrance store selling at a discount to a luxury site selling at retail prices. New management is sticking with the original business model:
As we do not have the financial resources to fully execute this business plan, we have suspended it and intend to re-focus the business on the discount model while we assess previous management’s MSRP model and re-formulate our business plan.
Also, on September 28, 2010 the company sold a domain name for $60,000.

Why did they discontinue with Karate.com? It has a #2 ranking on Google. Was it still not making enough money to justify the relationship? That bodes poorly for other Epik directory sites, I hope they are showing more success.
Oh well, success or not, Frager will take care of it for them=)

@ Troy – I suspect it has to do with Live Current’s “current” situation.
Troy says
Would you guess that they are going to be selling the domain then? Even if they were going to sell it, wouldn’t it bring a higher price developed as it is with Epik?
Andrew Allemann says
@ Troy –
The domain was listed in a recent Moniker auction.

Domain Strategies had an option to buy the domain name for $1m if the deal was terminated, so I’m guessing they (smartly) passed on that.

Karate.com was a joke. All the content was scraped, the forum had tumbleweeds blowing through it, and the directory was half-hearted.
It was basically something a 15-year old kid could have put together on the weekend.
There’s more to building a business or developing a property than splooging up some scraped content on category killer domain and expecting it to succeed.
Stock Watch says
It was disappointing to see a dearth of activity in the forums as well as the voting polls after the much-heralded launch.
The traffic numbers (according to one site) dipped precipitously through the months until it appeared to revert back to near pre-launch levels.
Hope that LiveCurrent will have plans to relaunch Karate.com in the near future rather than auction it.

the GoDaddy x.co short-URL service (that I’ve used for many links) seems disappeared from the Web… what happens?

I also hope LiveCurrent decides to keep Karate.com rather than auction it. Could be a good price tag, though
