Big exposure for .co domain names.
The folks at .co are very happy about Overstock.com’s latest TV commercial that includes the o.co domain name. And for good reason. The holiday commercial will certainly get a lot of airtime, and .co is featured prominently at the end.
At the end of the commercial is this graphic:
Overstock.com made waves when it purchased O.co from the .co registry in July for $350,000.
It makes sense that Overstock.com would feature it as a shortcut, given that its main brand includes “.com”. Given that the company basically said it had no idea what it would do with the domain name when it bought it, this is a nice lift for .co. Still, .co will be cheering more loudly when a company uses it as its featured URL.

Great news for domain owners that own names with “O” in them…joking:)
Love it or hate it its fun to see real world ads with out of the box strategies.

Says a lot for an extension that has only been out 3.5 months. I’d say that’s a rocket-ship.

I credit Overstock for trying new things. They also just celebrated their one year anniversary of O.biz. To me, these various marketing efforts are helping to brand “O” in the public eye as synonymous with Overstock. They’ll perhaps one day wind up with O.com down the road.

Nice news for the .co brand. Christmas is the time of year when Overstock always flood the market with their commercials, so it might help the extension.
On a different note, there are lots of nice .co names currently being auctioned on NameJet (just type .co in the search box to see the full list).
domain guy says
overstock has taken the familiar .com and then introduced the unfamiliar to the confused public(15% type in domain suffixs)
.co.overstock then used convential advertising tv instead of search.
then overstock used their familiar ad format for the once a yr holiday season.
job well done in branding, advertising and execution by overstock.I believe this is the first real execution by a company using the .co extension. it shows me that companies take this extension for real.
reguardless of what domainers say …..
it will be interesting to view the auction results of the .co extension. dnw will need to do a summary and see if there is any price increase(lift) in the .co auction results.

Incredible news. >co brand should be number 2 in no time.
Though I always suggest buying generic names. If your buying company or domain names that even have two words in them that have been established and your trying to get traffic off them, your just looking for trouble.
I think worldwide it is going to mesh well. You have some many countries with .co-uk, .co-au etc….
Nice to see this reported.

co still getting the url shortner titile.
t.co, x.co and now o.co. so .co is only for url shortening :D?

Considering Overstock already have a few LIVE Trade Marks in place for O.com it is very likely they will own O.com in the future, That’s probably why they bought the .co, Using O.co may help them get the .com in the long run.
Either way its nice to see big brands use something new but there will have to be ALOT more using it to make the extension stick.

Wrong, .co dreamers:
The reality is that most folks who see such ads will just assume that someone forgot the “m” in the address … driving free traffic to o.com … where many will click on the top PPC result … which is Overstock … meaning Overstock will pay twice for the same ad (once for the ad, a 2nd time for the click on their ad) … while others will automatically type “o.com” (because that’s of course what they type in over 98% of the time when visiting a site/company) … many of who will thereafter also click on Overstock’s PPC ad … leaving Overstock to also pay twice to get these folks to visit their site.
Sorry; but smart they aren’t.

Really great news for the .CO market!

Sad Sigh, i am afraid i agree..
Every body is still sitting around
waiting for a sign! …
Clever marketing, but it s NOT the proof of the pudding we have been waiting for ,,,
Just saying.
Joe says
Notice that 0.co (zero) also forwards to Overstock.com – it looks like they really want to associate themselves with the “big O”.
the goat says
so they’re singing ‘overstock.com’ over and over and all have overstock.com on tshirts and packaging, and underneath in very small at end they have o.com as a shortcut
LOL!
and this is ‘the sign’
lol
wake up dreamers
Gazzip says
@the goat “and underneath in very small at end they have o.com as a shortcut”
…errr, you mean O.co and not O.com 🙂
They better get used to saying that for a while.
Joe says
@the goat:
Well, nobody is saying they’re gonna change their brand to O.co (that would be just pointless). We’re simply saying that they want people to recognize them as the “big O”. Just like the general public thinks of Google and Microsoft when they hear “big G” and “big M”, respectively. To do this, they’re just making use of the .co TLD.
Landon White says
Ohh! 🙂

looks impressive for me :p

HILARIOUS to read some of these comments from all the “intelligent” people that KNOW how its all going to go down.
Go check out overstock.com and take a look at the logo…
Looks like O.co is here to stay.
o.com no longer exists when I type it in either…
kandyjet says
Very funny,
now they even don’t no where this going to end up it seems. logo shows o.co while if i type o.co it goes to overstock.com. confusing themselves and visitors.
