Rates are low, but domain prices are high.
If you’ve shopped for a certificate of deposit rate recently, you were probably disappointed by the results. Bankrate reports the typical 6-month CD is returning just 0.85%. Perhaps you should invest in domain names instead? One of NameMedia’s (runs Afternic and BuyDomains) top reported sales this week was for CDRate.com at $42,500. The domain gets some traffic according to Compete.com.
NameMedia releases only a small fraction of its weekly sales, but here are some other notable ones from the past week:

It seems that longtails are beginning to find their mark. SEO anyone?
Henry.
@ Henry – NameMedia always does well with long tails 🙂
Man oh Man……that guy got ripped off selling CDRate.com for that price.
There is SO much damn power in that domain.
He’ll be kicking himself one day.
@Tim that price is exactly what I would expect to sell for, and if I got an offer in that range would jump on it. Most domainers are so arrogant, they own a small group of domains they think are worth millions… So they wait, and wait, and wait for their big pay-day. But it never comes, because they don’t know an end user when they see one.
Please find me someone else that is willing to pay more than $50k for this domain. Sure maybe in 5-10 years, but do you want to make money or grow a beard?
The only time I see someone kicking themselfs is when they sell to a domainer for a few thousand. Then they see the domainer flips to an end user for 100x what they paid for. That is the only time they should be kicking themselves. Otherwise KUDOS on the sale.
