If You Can’t Go to Brussels, You Can Still Participate Online

ICANN holds informational sessions on remote participation for June meeting.

Brussels ICANNIf something good came of many attendees pulling out of the last ICANN meeting in Kenya for security reasons, it was the tidal shift to remote participation in ICANN meetings. A number of people who chose not to attend the meeting went to the web and ICANN’s many remote participation features to stay involved and virtually raise their hand to speak. A group of domain companies even set up a remote participation meeting in Washington.

ICANN No. 38 takes place June 20-25 in Brussels. If you can’t make the trip, consider participating with your computer. It’s not the same as being there, but the tools are improving. ICANN has set up a couple webinars to explain remote participation and give an overview of the tools available. They will last 30 minutes each and take place on Monday, June 14. If you can’t make it live they will be recorded for later viewing.

By all accounts this should be a big meeting. The “final” draft applicant guidebook for new top level domains has been released but there is plenty to still be decided.
