Slots domain name sells for a whopping $5.5 million.
I have received confirmation from domain name auctioneer Moniker.com that Slots.com has sold for $5.5 million — making it the largest reported domain name sale of 2010 and one of the top 10 most expensive reported domain sales of all time.
The domain name was listed for sale in a SnapNames auction. The auction concluded without a bid reaching the reserve, but Moniker worked with both parties to close the deal.
Slots.com was registered back in 1995. While technically a web site, Slots.com is basically a portal leading players to other online casinos offering online slots.
According to Compete.com the web site gets about 15,000 unique visitors a month. However, Compete.com tracks U.S. visitors better than other traffic, and I suspect much of the traffic to this web site comes from countries that have not cracked down on online gambling.
Although the domain has whois privacy on it, the most recent listed owner is a man in Los Angeles.

Is just the domain changing hands or the website with it? If the website comes with the domain then this doesn’t count as a domain sale. It would be a tech business sale just like YouTube.com and Flickr.com.
Andrew Allemann says
@ nr – there’s really nothing on the site. Just a small portal with links to casinos. no technology here.

Congrats.Who bought it?
Kevin says
This will mean any domain with slots in the wording will be probably going up in value.
Rob Lafaye says
Glad to hear the sale made it to this point.
This name has true world wide appeal, unlike sex.com.
The ‘intertainment’ value is worth a lot and if gambling is legal off-line in America it will be legal online as well for those who have money to play.
Jeffrey Gabriel says
Great sale! Kudos to Moniker for putting that together.
Jamie says
I hope this doesn’t become another pizza.com type “sale”.
I would be surprised if this is the last we hear about this “auction”. 🙂
App Giveaway says
Pizza.com has had a make over. I agree this is not just a domain sale this domain is located at a fully blown website.
App Giveaway says
Slots.com???? has the sale gone through???? I was recently offered a price for http://www.iPitch.net no where near $5,000,000 🙁
M. Menius says
Don’t know much about gambling so the sky high price is something I can’t fathom. What business would be built around this name? Do people search for “slots” online?
Andrew Allemann says
@ M. Menius – slots is a huge category for online gaming. Some sites only do slots — no poker, blackjack, etc.
Bob says
So what are the other nine top selling domain names of all time?
Steve M says
Is SlotsDatingBoardGames.com still available? 😉

I really wish, somebody could step up, and share the secrets of making this million dollar sale.
tool hire says
this will count as a domain sale
that cannot be called a ‘site’
plus there is a whole page dedicating it for sale and auction etc
lets hope it goes through
BIG sale
Samit says
This is a terrific sale, I wonder if it’s based purely on keyword value or does it also factor in revenue multiples.
Could anyone direct me to some reputable affiliate programs for this industry?
I have Slots.ag and OnlineCasino.ag and a few poker names but don’t have a clue on how to monetize them beyond parking.
Andrew Allemann says
@ Samit – you might try Slotland.com if they’re still around. I know they had a pretty good affiliate program back in the day.
Lev Pershin says
