Online domain marketplace sets new bar with Q1 sales.
Domain name marketplace Sedo sold a record number of domain names in Q1. The company sold 11,942 domains in the quarter compared to 10,070 domains in the fourth quarter of last year, and growth of 29% compared to Q1 2009.
The company also saw a shift in how its domain names are sold. 21% of domain names were sold at a fixed price, compared to just 12% last quarter. Company representatives have told me that fixed price listings are seeing very good sales rates. Having more fixed price inventory will help the company as it expands its Sedo MLS network.
Another positive sign in Q1 was an overall increase in median sales prices. The median .com sold for $510, the highest in at least a year. .Net, .org, .biz, and .info also all saw their highest median sales prices in at least a year.
