GeoDomain Expo attracts a different type of crowd.
For the past few years I’ve enjoyed my trip to GeoDomain Expo, an annual gathering of owners of city.com and similar geographic domain names. It’s a different sort of conference that attracts a different crowd than most domain conferences I attend.
You can tell that by looking at the sponsor list. Few of the companies are directly involved in the domain business. From Local.com to ARES to Booking.com, the show attracts companies that help domainers build out their domain names.
One other thing you’ll note in the show’s sponsor lineup this year is the presence of Go Daddy. A number of domainers have been critical of Go Daddy for not having a presence at domain conferences. I’m told that there will be several representatives of the company in attendance. For many Go Daddy customers, it’s good to put a face on what has become a “big” company. This conference is a good fit with Go Daddy’s recent launch of its Geo Map for generating local domain name ideas.
Associated Cities Executive Director Patrick Carleton told me today that they’re adding an M&A panel to the event, which will also make for compelling content. It should be a great show, and tickets are still available for next week’s event in New Orleans.
Unfortunately, I’m going to have to break my string of consecutive GeoDomain Expo conferences this year due to a conflict. But for anyone interested in the geo domain space, I highly recommend making the trip.

GoDaddy attending the conference makes good sense for them. Geo domain owners/developers have a product that is of automatic appeal to many people and businesses around a locality. Those people and businesses have (or will have) a need to purchase domain names and hosting. So tapping the geo domain market is really a path to more business.

I not involved with this group except I know many of them from the industry and I must say this is a first-class group of people. Some great successes.
Thanks, Jim

I unfortunately can’t make it to this years show either. I think this is one of the best shows to be able to attend. A great networking and informative show. Some nice sponsors lined up that woulda been great to meet with. Look forward to hearing how it goes.

We @Chitika are physced to be a part of the GeoDomain Expo this year.
For the past two years we have taken the local space by the horns and have become a serious revenue produced for a ton of local/city sites.
It will be great to meet new owners/developers and stay fresh with what’s out there.
