Here comes the iPad. Here come the lawsuits.
Today is the day 300,000 Apple fan boys have been waiting for: the launch of the iPad. As with any Apple product launch, it will only be a matter of months before the class action lawyers jump in to sue Apple for product problems. Here are my predictions for two lawsuits.
Repeated typing on the iPad hurts your hands.
Houston class action lawyer Bubba McCoy has filed a lawsuit against Apple on behalf of part-time blogger Wanda Williams. Williams frequently types blog posts on her iPad. Unlike typing on a keyboard that has “give” when you type, the iPad doesn’t absorb the energy from your hands.
“Apple failed to adequately warn consumers of the risks of typing on the iPad,” claims McCoy. “My client has suffered irreparable harm from her hand injuries. She is no longer able to blog, losing out on $5.26 in Adsense income she was earning from her blog each month.”
Williams also complains about the fingerprint smudges on her iPad.
McCoy is seeking millions in damages. But he will settle on behalf of the class in the form of $25 iTunes gift cards to each member of the class, plus $1.2 million in attorney’s fees.
Reading on the iPad is bad for your eyes.
New Jersey class action lawyer Jimmy Valentine has filed a lawsuit against Apple on behalf of avid reader and unemployed temp worker Joanna Jules, who has suffered eye strain as a result of reading too many books on her iPad.
“We’re suing Apple because it advertised the iPad as an alternative to the Amazon Kindle,” says Valentine. “In reality, it is a poor substitute for reading. Yes, it has color. But the Kindle’s display simulates physical books, whereas the iPad is basically like reading on the computer screen. Oh yeah, and the weight of the iPad compared to the Kindle has caused wrist injuries in my client.”
Valentine is seeking millions in damages. However, he has indicated he will settle for each class member getting a free ebook download valued at $9.99, and $700,000 in attorney’s fees.

So now it’s obvious why you missed your flight to the Traffic domain conference back in January. 🙂
Andrew says:
“The airline web site didn’t recognize my reservation. I called the airline to see what was going on. Then I noticed that I had booked travel for last week, not this week.”

I predict apple has a slew of other law suits prepared itslef.
it is not the first slate product out online but they will make immediate patents on the square shape saying they thought of it first… or at least the first to think of PATENTING it.

I wouldn’t mind seeing someone “remind” AT&T that they promised iPhone tethering by the end of last summer.
