Dell scores victories in domain disputes.
Computer and technology services company Dell has received an early Christmas present, winning seven domain name arbitration cases in the span of just one week.
For the Dell brand, the company won five cases covering 8 domain names. One is an obvious typo, wwdell.com. The company also won a case for four gaming related domain names: DellConsole.com, DellGaming.com, DellVideoGaming.com, and DellVideoGames.com. Other domains picked up through arbitration include DellNotebook.com, DellStudent.com, and DellCareers.com.
The company also won two domain names related to its Alienware brand of high performance computers: Alianware.com and AlienLaptops.com.
Although Dell is no stranger to the UDRP process, this sudden spurt of cases filed in October is somewhat of an anomaly. It appears to have only filed two other cases this year. One was for MessagOne.com, a typo for MessageOne, a company Dell acquired. The other case was for two more Alienware domains, AlienWard.com and AlienWari.com.
According to a search at UDRPsearch.com, Dell has never lost a UDRP case.
no surprise to win those domains 🙂 all are plain stupid regs
I wonder why Dell does not go after the registrars that auction off some of these TM domains? (Like Godaddy and Namejet)
Technically, they are profiting by selling the domains.
OK what is wrong with this stupid ass world we live in and their lawsuits. Michael Dell, you should be ashamed of yourself. You don’t have enough money or what? AlienLaptops.com, AlienWard.com and AlienWari.com. So basically Dell “owns” the rights to any domain with the word ALIEN or ALIAN in the beginning? So what you gonna do to me if I register alianpiecesofcrap.com – you want it? Come and get it? I’ll certainly remember this next time someone asks me if I think Dell is a good brand or not.
I’ve never understood my a company is so ridiculous with this. Have you ever been to a parked page with ads on it even if it is something like delllaptops.com and thought man why would Dell have an ugly website like this here? NO you don’t think that … you know exactly what it is – A PARKED PAGE owned by some punk kid somewhere trying to make gas money using Dell’s pathetic name. I think it is blatant advertisement and might make me type in directly dell dot com at that point and buy a dell instead of finding a better site like gateway dot come in the first place.
Jonathan – they don’t own alien and alian, but they do have rights to typos of alienware, which is what those domains are.
Maybe so but AlianLaptops.com IS NOT a typo and they can just as easily be talking about little green laptops of any make brand or model.
@ Jonathan, sure, if the domain name wasn’t splattered with ads for Dell and such. I don’t think “Alien” is a generic term when applied to computers. “GreenLaptops.com”, sure, but not Alien.
