NameMedia platform getting two major improvements.
NameMedia will notify customers of Afternic later today about two major enhancements to its platform.
First, the company will be greatly expanding the reach of domains listed on Afternic with “Expanded Promotion”. Currently, domains listed with expanded promotion are cross listed on BuyDomains, GoDaddy Auctions, and several other sites. Although the company isn’t yet disclosing additional partnerships, it’s possible that names will start syndicating to registrars when people perform domain searches. Right now NameMedia’s own inventory is listed for sale on GoDaddy lookups, but not its customers’ listings.
The difficulty with listing AfternicDLS domains on registrar lookups is there’s a decent chance the domain is no longer owned by the person who listed it or was fraudulently listed. But that’s about to change…
The second upgrade is a new verification system that will verify ownership, check for possible trademark conflicts, and screen out any “vice” domains. This will be a huge improvement. In fact, I’ve been hoping for a system that would scan my portfolio for domains I’ve already sold on different platforms. Let’s face it, when you sell a domain you don’t immediately think “OK, I need to go delete this domain from Afternic”.
Hopefully Afternic’s new system won’t have too many false positives, but the last time Afternic scanned domains (for adult and gambling themes) results were fairly good.
If you don’t currently list domains for sale on Afternic, I highly recommend it. There’s a small $19.95 annual charge, but selling just one domain name covers the cost.
