Social networking tool for domainers not limited to DOMAINfest attendees.
As part of its DOMAINfest Global domain conference, DomainSponsor has launched an online social networking platform called DOMAINfest Connect. It is open to everyone: attendees, potential attendees, and people who just want to network with other people in the domain industry.
DOMAINfest Connect is powered by introNetworks, a social networking platform provider. It’s easy to use and seems to be valuable for making connections before the conference.
After registering for the service you create a profile. The profile system is fun: just drag and drop different characteristics about your business, professional life, personality, and interests. You place up to 10 characteristics in each category on a “scale” weighting how important they are:
After answering a few more questions and submitting your profile, you see a map that shows other people and how closely their characteristics match up with yours. Not only is it interesting to peruse, but it makes it easy to connect with like-minded individuals and even set up meetings with them at DOMAINfest.
Of course, it can be a bit scary too. My closest match is Frank Michlick.
That is scary indeed. I should log in again and check my preferences. I’m not sure I remember my password though.

It is an interesting concept.
However, I am starting to be concerned about what information is known about me and who has that information.
I don’t mind the “good guys” having that information. But, it is becoming more difficult to determine – who is the “good guys” and who is the “bad guys”.
With a little digging you would be surprised how much of your personal information is out there. And, how easy it is for me to see it.
I wish they spent their time and money on increasing REV and improving their lame stats that don’t work.
@ Privacy – you don’t have to hand over your social security number. I guess I’m not all that concerned. If someone wants to find me, it’s pretty easy to do.
Tacker quote –
“improving their lame stats that don’t work.”
That is funny you mentioned that.
I thought I was the only one having a problem getting simple stats from them.
My closest match is Britany Spears…oh wait maybe thats facebook.
Instead of having a party at the bankrupt (no girls anymore) Playboy Mansion, they should have just hired some strippers to jump out of a cake. Isn’t this a new low for DS?
Are the losers at the party going to be wearing little colored stick pins to indentify themselves? “Hey dude, we have the same hobbies.”
Count me out.
“I thought I was the only one having a problem getting simple stats from them.”
I could write a book dude. At first I thougt it was bad stats (Bad stats that take forever to process)
Now I think something different. I’m too classy to say what.
@ tacker ….you are a typical publisher who complains a lot yet continue to conduct business with them..if you aren’t happy move on..there are dozens of other companies that will accept you (unless you are a complainer everywhere else and no one wants you)..
Piece of advise..Instead of whining so much..maybe build a relationship with your account manager and you will see much better results..
So will you or Frank be live blogging about the date ?
I am trying to register, but it keeps showing me
“Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.”
I guess registration isn’t activated right now.
@ Adam – what kind of flowers does Frank like? 🙂
@ complainer
“Instead of whining so much..maybe build a relationship with your account manager and you will see much better results..”
I disagree. I have very good relationships with all of my acct managers, it doesn’t help past the initial setup.
The ppc guys are cutting back just to survive this downturn.
Domainers ppc revenue and support services will feel the cutback.
@ complainer
You don’t see a problem with having to wait 15 minutes for stats that are all messed up
Before they put op the new interface the stats used to work and they were fast. I’ve even had to wait 30 minutes for DS stats to process.
@Ricardo..if thats the case..then there is a good chance your acct manager isn’t doing his/her job..get another acct manager..i personally know 5 acct managers at DS and they all take good care of clients.
@mike..what you must understand is that there is huge amount of data processing which occurs in the backend. Not to mention the feed provider in this case Google has to send updates on stats. Are you familiar with Google Adwords or Yahoo Search Marketing..their stats usually delayed by 2 hours..The stats run on a database which has to process them and generally seperate servers extract the data..its not just a matter of displaying your stats..
