GoDaddy’s new product linked to recent patent filings.
A few months ago I noticed that GoDaddy filed a few patents related to social networking portals. GoDaddy just released SmartSpace, which appears to be include features referenced by the patent applications.
SmartSpace enables you to register a domain and instantly turn it into an active web site with a blog, photo album, etc. It also includes “SocialSpace”, which seems to be what the company’s patents referenced. With SocialSpace you can aggregate all of your social networks, such as Facebook and MySpace, and see them all on one page.
According to GoDaddy:
Get online with your own personal Web site instantly! With SmartSpace, you’ll have a Web site ready and waiting for you when you log in. Just personalize it by easily adding your own text, photos and more and you’re live on the Web with your own unique site!
And when you add other applications to SmartSpace, setting them up is as simple as clicking the product icon on your domain’s built-in control panel. SmartSpace knows what needs to be done and does it for you automatically. No technical skills or know-how required.
Plus, you can even build your own personal Web site by pulling in photos, blog posts, videos and more that you have at other sites. Simply tell SmartSpace where to go and what to get and it will add it to your Web site automatically!
The service costs about $5.00 per month.
