DNHour.com web site auction ends September 10.
DNhour.com, a Digg.com-like site that only covers domain name stories, is on auction at Sedo. There is currently one bid at $2,500 and the auction ends September 10. The site was launched in beta in June 2007.
According to site creator Koay Al Vin, the site has 2,437 registered users and receives 200-300 unique visitors daily. Al Vin says there are more than 10,000 links to the website, 15,700 listings on Google
and 54,000 listings on Yahoo. The site makes money by accepting paid ads, charging listing fees for people who want to promote their domains on the site, and through Google Adsense. Adsense provides about $80 a month in revenue.
One of Al Vin’s other projects, SwapNames, allowed domain owners to trade domain names. He shuttered the site after Oversee.net claimed trademark infringement on its SnapNames.com service, which is one critical letter away from “Swap” names.
Jamie Parks says
Koay Al Vin is a great guy with a knack for spotting areas of demand and building very useful tools for the web. It’s a REAL shame upon the domain industry that he lost swapnames.com in the manner that he did.
DNHour.com purchased for anything less than 10k would be another steal. Good luck Vin and I hope the new owner of DNHour keeps the site growing as smooth as you have.

I’m having a hard time understanding the Oversee TM claim on SwapNames. Seems like a reach to me.

Andrew,
Although I am not a fan of the format of the site, I’d like to point out that that it does rank in the top 10 for ‘domain news’ and ‘domain name news’.
So I would think that for $2500 (current bid) sites like yours and other domain news reporting sites must see it as good buy for the rank and user base?

I think it’s a steal at $2500. It’s probably more valuable to a newer blog or as another site within a large network.
Andrew says
It’s funny. When you search for “domain news” in Google it pulls up a Yahoo news page that hasn’t been updated since 2003.
