Latest issue tips scales at over 125 pages.
The September issue of Modern Domainer magazine will start shipping Monday, and this issue is a monster at over 125 pages.
The main feature is the second in the two-part series “Domainer’s Blog Bible”, which includes selected posts from Domain Name Wire. I’m happy with the selections Modern Domainer chose as it will re-introduce some topics that haven’t been discussed much lately. Please be sure to read the date below each article to understand what we were discussing at the time.
Other articles in this issue include:
-GeoDomain Expo wrap-up including photos (they somehow managed to get a sober photo of me at the TrafficZ party).
-TRAFFIC New York preview
-Verizon v. Navigation Catalyst lawsuit
-.Tel TLD preview
-Update on Snowe Bill
-Interview with Don Ham of HitFarm
Advertisers include 19Parking.com, EuroDNS, BuildsOut, RevenueDirect, Sendori, and WhyPark, among others.
There’s also a preview of Domainer Mardi Gras, a conference and party being put on by Modern Domainer and Parked.com in February during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Modern Domainer is an editorially-independent publication backed by the founders of directNic and Parked.com.

I like the idea of getting a domainer magazines but I seems to me that most of these magazines just have ads and an “auction wrap-up” with tons of photos. That’s all great and fun, but does anyone really learn anything from these magazines? It just seems like these mags are just a who’s who, fluff, ego-centric publications.
Has anything from these mags made me a better domainer? No.
I wish the tone of the mags was more serious with advanced techniques and methods at domain acquisitions. Or, more advance monetization methods, etc…… instead of the “state of domaining” or some other mundane subject. Hell…. we already know the state of domaining…. just look at the payouts – I don’t need reminding.
I don’t think Kevin Ham can tell most of us domainers much about domaining b/c he has millions to play with and just goes to the big auctions, but a domainer who has his hands dirty and it scouring for new venues for monetization or has developed new domaining abilities that he or she is willing to share is much more interesting.

Johnny, it’s hard for a magazine to avoid the “feature” style writing because they only come our every month or two. But I’m sure Modern Domainer would welcome guest articles from people willing to write tutorials.

I contributed an article on SEO this time, and tried hard to make it meaningful for domainers. So much of “SEO” is fluff and talk. Perhaps I tried too hard, because I just re-read it and wow… it’s pretty dense. I hope some find it useful.
I totally agree domainers could use actionable information, but I am also aware that these magazines are very young and domaining itself is very young. You guys set high expectations for yourselves. I don’t think the typical “top ten” list stuff would go far with the domainer audience, and in competitive arenas like SEO (and domaining), there isn’t much value in publishing secrets if widespread use would kill their value. It might take soem trial and error time to find the right perspective as Johnny B Good suggests above.
