A summary of news coming out of the GeoDomain Expo in Chicago so far.
I’ve been at the GeoDomain Expo in Chicago for about 24 hours now and it’s been a fast-paced event. Here’s a summary of what’s been going on:
There are about 200 people at the conference, far surpassing previous GeoDomain Expos. As one person commented to me on the trolley ride to the TrafficZ party last night, “The mood here is far more upbeat than at regular domain conferences.” I think this industry has a lot to be upbeat about….
It looks like TrafficZ is getting into the domain sales business. The company recently purchased Aftermarket.com and is rumored to be the company offering auctions at the next TRAFFIC conference. More competition is good news for domainers.
Speaking of TrafficZ, these guys sure know how to throw a party. But having a hangover at a W Hotel isn’t fun with all of the flashing mood lights and techno music…
An unscientific poll of several attendees predicts that this afternoon’s GeoDomain auction will bring in $100,000 to $300,000. Expectations are low, so a few big sales could tip the needle. Moniker is trying out a new auctioneer today and promises to show us more auctioneers at future events…
The Castello brothers donated a domain name to the auction and proceeds will be donated to Internet Commerce Association…
One of the coolest technologies I’ve seen at the show is eDirectory, a platform for creating directory sites online. It’s affordable, too.
Directory and geo domains go very well and easy to work on.
Do you think zip code domain can be goodgeo domain? something like something like 10040.com for a zip code of newyork ?
Andrew, could you give us an idea of where and how much Aftermarket.com was bought for?
@ Frank – it sold for $125k at Domainer Meeting in Paris.
@ # 2- only if it’s a big zip code
