Initial domain auction goes well, second day kicks off.
Last night more than 150 people packed the exhibit hall at TRAFFIC for a welcome cocktail party. The mood wasn’t quite as upbeat as previous conferences. There’s looming fear of attacks on the domain name industry and the downward pressure of domain parking revenue spoiling the mood.
That said, the business is still strong and the low reserve/no reserve auction last night went well. 16 domains traded hands for $62,750. The big winner was Daycare.org which sold for $16,500. Refinancing.net and SpaceForRent.com each sold for $8,000 and DietChocolate.com sold for $7,500. The main auction is Friday afternoon. The timing may be tough as many people will have to catch flights during the auction to make it home for the holiday weekend.
Today kicked off with a small roundtable of domainers meeting with Internet Commerce Association. During lunch I’ll release the remainder of the results from the Third Annual Domain Name Wire survey. I’ll try to post the results on Domain Name Wire later today. This evening TrafficZ is sponsoring a party inside Disney.
Updates to come…
