The live domain name auction yesterday in Las Vegas resulted in $4.3M in sales; more to come in silent auction.
155 out of 233 names in the live auction sold – 67% – a much higher percentage than in previous auctions. Moniker chief Monte Cahn credits a better selection process and “more experience” for these results. $4.3M in domain names traded hands at the auction, and Cahn predicts another $1M will sell in the silent auction, which ends March 14. You can still bid on 3500 silent auction domains by visiting www.moniker.com/silentauction/index.jsp. There is a $499 absentee bidding fee, but this fee may be applied to any purchase you make.
Domain sales are listed below. Any domains that might be considered ‘adult’ in nature have been excluded. Note the strong presence of two character domains at the top of the list.

What an amazing list and to see what some of the items went for were amazing. Moniker did a hell of a job. Autoclassifieds.com almost hit our reserve at the auction. Thanks for everyone that worked to promote autoclassifieds.com at the show. Look for 3xvideos.com and Alarmme.com the silent list ending March 14th, Also offered for auction via Moniker.com

My Secretary.org went for just 11k, kind of a bargain and disappointing for me. If .org is normally 10% of the .com’s worth, I will fork out 110k for Secretary.com right now. Monte is doing a great thing, no doubt about it, I hope to make up the ground with my other 26 names on auction, 2 of which missed the live call before closing …

pizza.mobi for 21k what a deal. People buy more pizza than flowers.

Crinu, I can see the .org for $11K but still, good luck with the Silent auction. I want them to move my autoclassifieds.com over to the silent auction. It went to $75K before they just stopped asking for bids. Seemed odd to me and I did want over $100,000 for it and everyone knew the reserve was over $100K so I’m not sure why they stopped accepting bids at $75K. They missed a nice chance to pick up a decent commission.

Just picked up pervertedmind.com. This will be listed in June in NY in case anyone wants it or wants to make an offer now. Alexa ranked. Remember, it’s a shame to waste a perverted mind. I can see the site now. Everyone to the right of myspace, move over to pervertedmind.com.

Surprise to see that Fox.net only fetched 19K. That’s a bargain even for a .net I think.

What do you think of GoldMedalBeers.com?

Thoughts on HomeForeclosures.com for $90,000? The real estate market going the way it is and all. And if appropriate to ask, i’d appreciate opinions from you insiders on BankOwnedRealEstate.com. Thanks… RF

DNW,
Thanks again for the most timely reporting in the domain name world.

Addressing a few of the comments:
-There have been some good .org sales recently, including date.org, but I think secretary.org for $11k seems reasonable for two reasons: .org doesn’t make too much sense in this case, and “secretary” is not used much any more (at least in the U.S.) in favor of “administrative assistant”. However, “secretary” can refer to other things.
-Pizza.mobi for $21k. I can see people ordering pizzas on their mobile phone, but most people today get pizzas delivered to their home of office. Additionally, wouldn’t you just go to pizzahut.mobi or something like that? I think we’ll see .mobi’s cool off a bit, but you never know.
-My CankerSores.com went for $9k. I think that’s what I had the reserve set for but I don’t recall. Could someone flip it to a pharma for more? Perhaps, but I’m still satisfied with the sale.

Scott, my understanding is that the live auction was stopped before reaching the end of the published list due to time constraints, so, 80 names and the back-bidding were shut down. At the same time I have received guaranty that all outstanding LIVE submissins will be pushed to the SILENT and I hope you will see the results for your great name.

Editor, I do appreciate your take on the secretary.org, but for the argument’s sake, the name is pure generic and would serve the “secretary of state” or the “secretary’s day” as well, just to mention a couple. The name is vintage and unspoiled, please check the history. If you feel the deal was fair, I will pay you 15% commission for acquiring secretary.com on my behalf for $110k. I really want to hear the buyer’s comments (confidentially of course).

but the point is that this auction has not led to any price rise in cctlds, anywhere. they are still struck, in mud, except .cn. even .mobi, is as big a slush as dot net. Never buy a .net, never. Never develop a site at .net. This is cardinal sin of site development. Develop them with .com, or any country extension, or mobi or dot Tv but never with .net
