Affiliate network Commission Junction continues to make concessions on its javascript link plans.
Affiliate links should be a key part of any domainer’s monetization strategy, so I sometimes write about the latest happenings in the affiliate marketing world.
Several months ago Commission Junction (cj.com) announced it was doing away with standard affiliate links in favor of javascript links. Javascript links have some advantages over standard text links, especially when it comes to accurate reporting and avoiding affiliate cloaking scripts. But much like ClickBank realized when it proposed changes to its linking structure, affiliates have spent thousands of hours and money developing their current systems. Any changes to linking structures can be costly. Furthermore, javascript links create some major headaches. They often don’t appear correctly in different browsers and many web surfers disable javascript.
So CJ relented, agreeing to offer standard HTML links in addition to javascript links. But it was a hassle to get the HTML links. By default CJ would give you the javascript link and you had to click a couple links in order to access the HTML links. Yesterday CJ announced it would start showing HTML links side-by-side with the javascript links. This shows the level of resistance CJ is getting to its javascript plans.
