Diamond.com and related intellectual property was purchased by internet jeweler Ice.com for $7.5M.
This major deal is unique because the price of the domain and intellectual property were separate from Ice.com’s purchase of Diamond.com’s inventory and hard assets. The inventory was sold for $2M, bringing the total transaction value to $9.5M.
You could argue that the domain itself didn’t sell for $7.5M since the domain came with significant goodwill. Nevertheless, this is a groundbreaking sale! You can read more here.
DNJournal released its weekly sales report last night and there are a couple interesting sales to note. First, five transactions from the TRAFFIC live auction were completed and landed in the top 10: Sex.net for $454,500, PlaceBets.com for $60,000, Record.net for $25,300, LastMinuteTravels.com for $21,300, and HairLossTreatment.com for $18,300. I’m not debating any of the particular sales values at the live auction, but I have to say it was a great opportunity for sellers. When you get some of the biggest domain players in one room hubris takes over and logic is thrown out the door!
Another noteworthy sale was Base.com for $110,012 in a private sale. I was happy to see that Blogging.us sold for $5,500 in a private sale since I own Blogs.info.
I’ve come to the conclusion that only about 20% of major sales are ever reported. This week was somewhat different with some of the TRAFFIC auction domains coming through, but keep in mind that when domainers at both TRAFFIC and Domain Roundtable were completing 6 figure deals on the side.
