Forums continue to be good venues for buying and selling domain names.
[Editors note: this is the sixth in a series of posts with results from the 2006 Domain Name Wire survey. The complete results of the survey will be posted soon.]
Where do domainers go to buy and sell domain names? Forums such as DNForum continue to be hot for domain name transactions. People frequently sell domains within minutes of posting them on forums (but usually at a wholesale price).
In our survey of 582 domain name owners, 48% claimed to use forums for buying and/or selling domain names:
Which domain sales venues do you use for selling and/or buying?
Forums 48%
Sedo 42%
eBay 34%
Afternic 24%
Other 22%
TDNAM (GoDaddy) 18%
I personally have used all of these venues. You need to be careful about buying domains at eBay, however.
Of the three major domain aftermarket listing services (Sedo, Afternic, and TDNAM), Sedo remains the most popular, grabbing 50% of the vote (and 70% of the vote from domainers that own 1,000+ domains). Sedo generated over $25M in transactions in 2005. But Afternic landed the biggest publicly-disclosed sale; Fish.com for over $1,000,000.
Which domain sales venue do you think is best?
Sedo 59%
Afternic 28%
TDNAM (GoDaddy) 12%
Hi Andrew,
I was searching around to see what are the best sites to sell names on and came across this post. I know it is from 2006 and was curious if you could revisit this topic because i know the list in your post would be totally different now because the forums are dead. Would love to see a new version.
Thanks
Todd
