GoDaddy cleaned up in the 2006 Domain Name Wire Survey, but eNom was most popular among the biggest domain name owners.
[Editors note: this is the second in a series of posts with results from the 2006 Domain Name Wire survey. The complete results of the survey will be posted soon.]
GoDaddy is the world’s biggest domain name registrar- and for good reason. It initially attracted customers to its low prices but offers great additional services and good account security features. Given that price and security are the chief concerns of domain name owners, it’s only fitting that GoDaddy ranked number one on all of our survey questions about registrars.
However, these results tell only part of the story. If you only consider the responses of domain name owners that have 1,000 or more domains, eNom tops each result by a large margin. I use both GoDaddy and eNom equally. You have to appreciate the ease of using eNom. It takes about 15 seconds to register a domain at eNom; it takes several minutes at GoDaddy. GoDaddy recently added a feature to keep a credit card on file, but you still have to go through pages of upsells and confirmations before ordering a domain. eNom also makes it extremely easy to push domains to other accounts. GoDaddy’s process is cumbersome and requires you to have the complete Whois information of the person receiving the domain.
