If you had a lottery ticket worth $250,000, would you just toss it in the trash? If you had a nice car worth $250k, would you abandon it on the side of the road?
That’s basically what the previous owner of A1.com did. The domain expired and was auctioned off for an astonishing $260,250 at SnapNames. Someone left over $250k on the table! It always amazes me when this happens. There must be an explanation. Most likely the current owner changed contact information and did not receive renewal notices.
According to DNJournal, A1.com is the most expensive domain ever sold through an expired domain auction. If anyone is wondering how much single letter domains might fetch, I think this two character sale indicates that $1M+ is not a joke.
Four other expired domain auctions at SnapNames brought in big bucks: ActionSports.com for $50,750, HindiMovie.com for $25,000, WineList.com for $21,255, and CabernetSauvignon.com for $20,000.
