I’m a huge fan of GoDaddy, one of the best and most affordable domain registrars. But I think they might have received too much business from their recent advertising campaign (read: Super Bowl), as customer service has taken a major blow. They appear to be hiring customer service reps at light speed, and the training isn’t sufficient. I recently called support because I didn’t get a notification email to confirm a transfer to my account. The person transferring the domain to me issued the transfer several times, but alas, no emails. When I called support, the rep didn’t understand how the domain registrant transfer process at GoDaddy works. He told me “there don’t appear to be any registrant transfers to your account right now”. I explained to him that GoDaddy registrant transfers aren’t assigned to an account until they’re accepted. He then became uptight and said that the person transferring the domain to me must have messed up. Eventually I was able to transfer the domain by having the previous owner use a different e-mail address for me. Why I didn’t receive the confirmations at Gmail but did at Hotmail is beyond me.
GoDaddy runs a good show, and I’m sure this is just a blip on the radar. Hopefully Bob Parsons and his team can get things back together soon.
GoDaddy domain transfes freeze up in the person receiving the domain name has an email address in their system that doesn’t match the email address submitted for the transfer of ownership process. Cancelling the transfer then restarting it with the correct email clears this problem up fast.
I’ve had some problems with GoDaddy (check my blog for details) but overall they are a very good value and I’ll probably have a relationship with them a long time. eNom’s infrastucture seems a bit better (virtually error-free and they have a super efficient domain transfer process [push]), but their prices are not as good as GoDaddy. If Bob Parsons can work the kinks out of the company, his registrar will easuly dominate the competition.
As I have over 450 domains with GoDaddy so they assigned an account representative to me. A great asset; my rep takes care of my problems and gives me a nice discount on renewals. I wonder if eNom has the same kind of deal with their major players?
