WhyPark Continues to Diversify Revenue Streams with 2 New Apps

Company adds new apps to system including one that pays on a cost-per-action basis.

Domain name content system WhyPark has released two new Domain Apps, one designed to boost traffic and the other to boost traffic while generating non-PPC revenue.

The Photo Gallery Domain App displays photo galleries on your WhyPark sites based on a keyword.

The Publications Domain App lets you offer visitors free publications including white papers, free magazine subscriptions, case studies, and eBooks. Domain owners are paid for each qualified download.

WhyPark has created a number of Domain Apps with the idea of generating more content (and thus interactivity and traffic) for domain names on its system and also diversifying revenue streams away from merely tier one pay-per-click. For example, its mortgage app and comparison shopping app deliver content plus pay-per-click revenue, although the PPC is from alternative providers to its main upstream provider.

WhyPark Officially Launches Domain Apps

Domain parking alternative releases major upgrade today.

I’ve been excited about WhyPark’s Domain Apps since WhyPark founder Craig Rowe first started talking with me about them at Domainer Mardi Gras. He then gave me a sneak peak at TRAFFIC in Vancouver. Today they are available to install on your WhyPark domains.

Domain Apps let you instantly ad relevant content modules/pages to your domain names, and some of them help you earn money, too. Want to pull in a comparison shopping feed? Just click a few buttons. Need a hotel directory? Ditto.

Craig is obviously is familiar with his product, but it literally only took him about 30 seconds to add each module.

Among the more interesting Domain Apps:

-Web directory – create categories of businesses relevant to your domain, then charge a monthly fee for listings

-Local listings – show local businesses based on a keyword, and display them on a map

-Comparison shopping – add a comparison shopping engine for products relevant to your domain name

Last Friday I posted about starting DNW’s “Ultimate Swag Bag” auctions. The first auction will run now through Friday at 1 p.m. CDT and feature some nice swag from WhyPark.

5 Alternatives to Traditional Domain Name Parking

Parking revenue got you down? Here are 5 alternatives to try.

Here are five alternatives to traditional pay-per-click domain parking.

RootOrange – RootOrange will lease your domain name on a local basis to multiple parties. In theory, this leasing will provide you with a steady income stream that should top what you can achieve by using the domain at an international-only level. Check out DivorceLawyer.com for an example.

Shopping Feeds – if you have a product domain, you should consider “developing” your domain by including products on the page. This will make it look like an e-commerce site. SmartName offers SmartName Shops, which uses a PPC feed from Shopping.com. You can also try Epik Product, which uses various affiliate feeds. Epik charges a set up fee, but offers a guarantee.

Octane360 – Octane360 creates directory sites on your geo domain names (e.g. WashingtonAllergists.com) and then sells directory listings to local businesses via a call center. Sites can also be monetized using PPC and pay-per-lead.

DevHub – DevHub offers a simple, WYSIWYG editor to create web sites quickly. You can drag-and-drop shopping product feeds, news, video widgets, and more. Monetization is primarily through PPC, but also includes affiliate and CPA options.

WhyPark – now owned by domain parking company Parked.com, WhyPark quickly develops domain names using articles and other syndicated content. You can also add your own custom content for better results. Although this is traditionally recommended for domains that don’t get much traffic, WhyPark has been able to take good type-in domains and make more money than with traditional parking.

A few domain name news stories for Wednesday.

With a holiday week, there are a lot of stories I haven’t gotten to, so let’s get caught up…

When Ron Jackson started writing DNJournal, he was smart enough to decide to focus on feature stories rather than “breaking news”. After all, it lets him work at his pace. He’d rather have people like me cover the breaking news while he focuses on features. And that’s a good thing, because he’s really good at it. Witness his latest feature, a story about Rick Latona. It’s an interesting read, and it puts into context how Latona runs his businesses…

Speaking of Rick Latona, he has launched Vino.com. He made a smart move by avoiding the typical wine e-business and opting to run a wine-of-the-month club instead. You might notice some design similarities between Vino.com and Latonas.com.

The WhyPark charity auction has contributed nearly $3,600 to a yet-unnamed charity. The bidder who bought EquityFirm.com for $775 will get to choose the charity.

Experience a New Auction Platform and Help Charity

Charity domain name auction underway.

The WhyPark charity auction is now live, and I can think of a couple good reasons to participate.

First is that all auction proceeds go to charity. For me, December is a month of giving. Although I donate to charities throughout the year, my wife and I are sure to make our big donations before the end of the year. In this auction, the person who places the single highest bid in the entire auction gets to choose the charity that will receive all proceeds.

Second, you get to try out a brand new domain name auction platform at Latonas.com. It’s in beta, so go easy on it. (For some reason, many domainers don’t understand what “beta” means, so Rick took a risk by putting this out there.) But my first impressions are very positive. It looks upscale and each domain gets its own page that includes stats.

The auction ends this ~~Thursday~~ Friday (U.S. time).

Mardi Gras Special Ends Today, WhyPark Gives Auction Details

Here are a couple news notes from Domainer Mardi Gras and WhyPark.

Domainer Mardi Gras special ends today: Domainer Mardi Gras is giving away a 500 GB external hard drive to anyone who signs up to attend by midnight tonight. Registration rates are as low as $595 if you also stay at the conference hotel. This is the lowest fee you’ll ever see for attending an industry-wide domain conference. It’s a lot of fun, too. I recommend taking advantage of this offer if you’re sitting on the fence about attending Domainer Mardi Gras 2010.

WhyPark announces auction details: WhyPark is teaming up with Rick Latona Auctions to test out the latter’s Latonas.com auction platform for WhyPark’s upcoming charity domain name auction. Not only is the auction for a good cause, but I’m excited to see what Latona has developed. His company has used Proxibid.com for its previous auctions, but the system has serious limitations.
