New web site from Domaining.com is very promising.

Domaining.com founder Francois Carrillo works relentlessly to introduce new products. I like some more than others. Today I think he’s hit a grand slam with BargainDomains.com.

The premise is simple: you can list your domains for sale on BargainDomains.com for a maximum of 30% of the appraisal price on sister site Valuate.com.

When you take a look at the list of domains on BargainDomains.com, you’ll see that this model will actually work. There are some domains on there at very fair prices. True bargains. Not those elusive “great prices” for “premium domains” that you see everywhere else. There are actually some winners on here.

And, as with all great solutions, the beauty is because of the simplicity.

To list a domain, you just plug it into a submit box. It then tells you the Valuate.com valuation and how much you can list the domain for. Then pick a start date, and everything else is taken care of. Listings are exclusive for 15 days and there’s a 15% sales commission (no listing fee.)

Another beautiful but simple feature: domains discounted the most from their appraisal prices are shown higher on the page.

LaFountaine.com leads sales chart, but also interesting .cc and .mobi sale.

Sedo has completed the sale of LaFontaine.com for $50,000, its top reported sale of the past week. LaFontaine is a common last name, and means “fountain” in French.

The domain broker also completed a number of sales from its one and two character .de auction and its one character .biz auction.

Sedo Revenue Down 20% This Year, But Turning the Corner

Sedo posts 19.6% drop in revenue through three quarters.

Sedo today reported its results for the first three quarters of 2009, facing a decline in revenue to 34.1M EUR this year compared to 42.4M EUR in the same period last year. These numbers include both sales commissions and parking revenue.

But the good news is that things appear to be looking up. In its 9 month report (pdf), company management noted that the third quarter was better than the second this year, and usually the third quarter is weak for online advertising.

Another good sign: the number of domains sold in Q3 2009 was the best since at least 2007. That’s according to the company’s Q3 market study (pdf), which shows 9,928 domains sold last quarter.

Although last quarter’s sales weren’t an all time record, Sedo’s Heather DelCarpini told me that the global brokerage team set an all time record last quarter. Global brokerage sales involve an actual Sedo broker in the transaction as opposed to an online Sedo marketplace transaction.

The only number we don’t have from Sedo is its parking revenue thus far in 2009. Domain parking revenue far eclipses the revenue Sedo earns from sales commissions, and it surely made up a big chunk of Sedo’s revenue drop this year. Hopefully that’s turning the corner, too.

Monthly SnapNames Auction Begins, Sedo 2 Character Auction Ends Tomorrow

One auction kicks off as another comes to a close.

Snapnames‘ monthly domain name auction has kicked off and will conclude next Tuesday, November 17. The monthly auctions used to last only a few days, so it looks like SnapNames is trying a different tact.

The auction includes roughly 240 domain names, 77 of which have no reserve. Among the domains with no reserve are DealComparison.com, LegalFees.com, and StewMeat.com. Two no reserve auctions have received bids: CreditCardApproval.net and RumDrinks.net.

Over at Sedo, the two character domain auction ends Thursday at noon EST. The top domain to meet its reserve so far is one that started with no reserve — 64.com, which is up to $37,000 with 42 bids. Four other domains have met their reserves. The highest bid overall is $112,000 for IL.com, but that domain has a reserve over $500,000.

LuxuryNames to Hold Online Domain Name Auction

Popular newsletter to run online auction.

LuxuryNames.com will hold an online domain auction November 18-24 on the Snapnames platform.

LuxuryNames.com is known for its once-or-twice monthly newsletters with domain names for sale. The recently-launched newsletter has resulted in over $250,000 in sales over the past three months.

The auction will include about 200 domain names, and 80% of the reserves will be $1,500 or less. The catalog will include .com, .net, and .org domain names, with a focus on .com. Domains were selected based on SEO, age, quality, and price. The catalog is nearly finalized and will be released this Wednesday. Initial domains include refinancecalculator.com, autoloancalculator.com, debtcollection.net, drumsets.org.

It will be interesting to see the company move beyond its newsletters to an auction format. The company isn’t doing this for an immediate payoff; it is not charging a commission to sellers above the SnapNames commission.

Submissions are no longer being accepted for this month’s auction, but LuxuryNames will accept submissions for future auctions. If all goes well, and if the company can get enough quality domains, it hopes to hold an online auction quarterly.

Social Business Card Company Buys Poken.com for $75,000

Social gadget company upgrades its domain name.

Sedo has brokered the sale of Poken.com for $75,000 to a company that bills itself as a mobile social business card.

According to the web site, “poken is your ’social business card.’ it’s an easy way to share your contact details and online social networks in the real world. just hold two poken palms together – high4! – and you’re connected.”

The web site makes it look like a product primarily for teenagers. This domain is a big upgrade, as it appears the company has been using DoYouPoken.com as its web site.

Domain Owners Should Learn Lesson About Leaving Money on the Table

Deal or no deal? eNom leaves money on the table.

Back in February I made an offer on a domain at AcquireThisName.com, an eNom affiliate. It wasn’t a great name, just a brandable that a friend was interested in. eNom wanted $6,000; my friend’s final offer was $400 since we were so far off.

Flash forward to November and eNom is letting the domain drop, likely to earn little or nothing for the domain it could have had $400 or more for. Here’s an email I received from the company:

Hello Andrew,

You were previously in contact with Acquire This Name about purchasing the domain name [redacted.com]. While we were not able to reach a sale agreement for the domain at that time, we want to let you know that the domain will soon be available in auction thru (sic) NameJet.com. If you are interested in bidding on the name in auction, please visit the domain redacted.com for more information. In general, the bid minimum bid price for the domains at NameJet start between $29-69 USD.

I know $400 isn’t much. But it goes to show that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Had eNom made a reasonable counter offer, they probably could have sold the domain for $1,000. When you have a brandable name with few potentially interested parties who have other options, it’s worth trying to close a deal rather than lose it.
