No change at the top other than fewer registrations.
ICANN published the latest official .com transactions report from Verisign, which includes data by registrar for April 2017.
There was no change in the order of the top five registrars ranked by total new registrations, although the numbers were down quite a bit from the prior month. March had more registrations than usual, which means there might have been some sort of end-of-quarter registry promotion with discounts and a reversion back to the mean in April.
Here are the top registrars in terms of new registrations:
1. GoDaddy* 867,537
2. Tucows** 184,327
3. HiChina 149,279
4. PublicDomainRegistry 116,235
5. Namecheap 116,132
Here are the top five registrars (open to the public) for net inbound transfers during the month:
1. HiChina +20,694
2. GoDaddy +11,791
3. Google +7,441
4. Epik +6,796
4. Google +8,199
5. NameSilo +6,648
On the flip side, these five registrars saw the biggest net outflow of .com domain names due to transfers:
1. eName -12,323
2. Fabulous -7,730
3. Tucows -7,232
4. PublicDomainRegistry -7,113
5. Domain.com -7,066
*Includes GoDaddy and Wild West Domains **Includes Tucows and eNom.

Good to see namesilo on the top gainers list. I’m moving all names to namesilo. They’ve become a real domain investor powerhouse over the past few years. They’re very underrated in the industry imo. Superb functionality and in-house marketplace. The sole registrar it’s a joy to use!

I second this opinion. NameSilo is truly a great registrar and I’m very happy to see that it starts appearing in the top 5 gaining registrars.

I am surprised tucows/enom only lost 7,200 domains.
I’m slowly getting my domains out of enom. It would be quicker but enom makes it a tedious process. and, I have heard from others that they are ‘slowly’ getting their domains out of there.
I don’t trust tucows.

I am shocked that Netsol is not on the list as a losing registrar. They are so bad !!!
They keep changing policies to make it more difficult to transfer a domain out of them. If you use the automated process within your account, there is a 3 day delay before they will send you the auth. code.
You use to be able to pick up the phone and request it from customer service.
Now, customer service can not do it for you. There is a special dept. and they are only open mon. thru fri.
I am sure they will eventually shorten it to a mon and tues. And, 2 yrs, it will only be open the third monday in the month.

I have a suggestion for netsol. Why not require a photocopy of ones passport .
And, require a personal notarized letter from the president of that country confirming the authenticity of the passport. That would definitely slow down the transfer process.
