Brokers and registrars can now more easily access Rightside’s Platinum domain inventory.
Rightside is changing up its Platinum Domains program for new top level domain names and inviting domain brokers and sellers to get a cut of the action.
Platinum domain names typically have asking prices between $25,000-$200,000. They also previously had high renewal prices. Under the new program, they will all renew at $30 wholesale, meaning the initial payment is the only large outlay for buyers.
The company is also launching a Platinum Edge program for registrars and Platinum Brokerage Program for domain brokers and industry specialists.
The registrar program will let registrars collect leads and negotiate to sell the Platinum inventory.
The brokerage program will give other people an opportunity to earn commissions by selling Rightside’s inventory of domain names. Brokers who are accepted to the program can put a hold on up to five Platinum domain names for 60 days. During this period, they will have exclusive rights to sell the domain name (with one caveat, explained later). There is no fee for putting a domain on hold while trying to sell it.
Brokers will earn a commission of 20% of Rightside’s asking price for the domain. Brokers are able to ask higher prices for the domains and pocket the difference plus the commission, so there might be an opportunity for a bigger win if a broker identifies an undervalued domain.
The one caveat to the exclusivity is that a domain can still be sold through the registrar program during the 60 days. If this happens, the broker will get a 10% commission even though they didn’t find the buyer.
Brokers that are interested in participating can send an email to broker (at) rightside.co with an explanation of why you are interested.
The best opportunity might be for people with close ties to an industry that can sell domains under an industry-specific top level domain name.
Rightside currently has about 14,000 Platinum domains. While some domains only have a couple dozen platinum domains, others have much more. .News has the most with 1,620.
