Company says domain name was stolen after email was compromised.
Jacobs Private Equity, LLC has filed a lawsuit (pdf) to recover the domain name JPE.com, which it says is stolen.
The firm, lead by Bradley Jacobs, alleges that the JPE.com domain name was stolen from it after one of its representative’s email accounts was hacked. The perpetrator used the email account to get login credentials at Network Solutions and subsequently transferred the domain name to Dynadot at the beginning of September.
The current whois record for JPE.com shows an individual in Phoenix, but the plaintiffs say the information is bogus. Thus, they filed the suit in rem versus the domain name. It was filed in U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Virginia, where .com registry Verisign is located.
JPE.com does not currently resolve.
