I think you will, too.
I did a double take when I was driving home yesterday. I saw an interesting domain name as I passed by a truck. It took a few moments for it to hit me. Was that really what I just saw? I had to turn the car around to get a better look.
Take a look at this picture and I think you’ll understand my reaction:
Yes, that’s a .us.com domain name, one of the third level domain name options offered by CentralNic. It’s rare to come across these domain names, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one one promoted offline.
Based on DomainTools historical whois records and Archive.org, the company started using Hoodz.com.us but later realized it also needed Hoodz.us. Hoodz.us now forwards to Hoodz.us.com.

Wow!

They’re valuable to some people. casino.uk.com sold for $14K.
DNPric.es says
There are many ***.uk.com and event ***.uk.net names used on the trucks here in the UK. It worked for many small traders. Even some big sushi chain…

I have actually seen a handful over the years here in Europe (in other Centralnic subdomains)
Eric Borgos says
At Hoodz.com it says “This domain is currently being offered for sale for $2,500,000 USD”. The whois shows it does not seem to be owned by the same company as Hoodz.us.com. So, maybe the sold it, or let it expire by mistake.

As Francesco said, you can see the odd one in Europe. Avon is the only one I’ve seen regularly (https://www.avon.uk.com/ )

People don’t realize CentralNic is going to shut all these down. How can we educate the public?
Kate says
They are surely not aware that Centralnic is sunsetting a few of those *private subdomains*

Sick, sick, sick.
Daniel Mac Sweeney says
That’s madness,
Forwarding a good .us name to .us.com…..???
Someone should contact them and help them transfer all their web details to their .us.. Maybe that is why they are forwarding cos they don’t have a clue?..
🙂
YamadaMedia says
Lol, yeah totally agree. Why not use .US as it’s shorter, easier, and is a real domain extension?
Nick says
it don’t look so bad, looks WHOLE LOT better than hoodz.xyz or hoodz.ooo
Dnvre says
We don’t see many of them in these here parts, dag nam it
John says
A unicorn! Lmao

Surprised they didn’t cover ALL their bases and get hoodzus.

Stupid is as stupid does. This is even worse than using a new gtld. No wait, on second thought, no it’s not. They both suck. But still, it is a very very bad idea and will result in missed opportunities.

Nice to see a second level in the wild like that, especially one with top level versions that redirect to it. Whether people remember the url perfectly or not, I have to give them credit for trusting their business with it and showing the world that they can applied to brick-n-mortar branding.
