Largest domain name escrow service moves headquarters north.
Escrow.com is moving its headquarters from the Los Angeles area to San Francisco, the company announced today.
The San Francisco office will be led by Danny Raja. He joined the company in April.
Escrow.com also announced that it has completed a back end transition to Amazon’s AWS and has reached one million registered users.
Freelancer.com acquired Escrow.com for $7.5 million in a deal announced in April 2015. (The deal took many more months to finalize.)

Is it just me or closing statements and deposits taking longer to hit?
Andrea Paladini says
Nope, it’s not just you, I was told the same by other guys in the industry … they are getting slower and slower … not a good sign …
JZ says
Yeah, consistently slower. Its disappointing after using them for 10 years and getting speedy quality service. Now I find things seem a bit messer with support and slower to get paid out.

Definitely noticed this, too.

Upon closing statements, I used to get payment at midnight, or the next day, now I don’t see payment for 2-4 days. I thought Escrow was supposed to get better, getting paid in a timely manner is one of the top priorities for sellers in the checkout process.
I have started using sedo escrow for some deals, as you get paid out as soon as sedo receives the domain. Escrow concierge has been a nightmare if the domain is not at godaddy, and the owner doesn’t want it at godaddy.

I noticed this the last two transactions and have determined it is security related. They really want to double check and be sure the purchaser crosses all the T’s and dots the I’s before releasing funds. I used to be able to call/email support and in 5 minutes have funds released when I felt the buyer was taking too long, now they look into things first. Slower, yes but again may be attributed to security.

When it is a wire payment security is not as much of an issue, it’s across the board, unless you know first hand why, you shouldn’t be answering for escrow.

I am not speaking for escrow I am giving my opinion as to why I think it is slower. And just so you know if all the T’s are crossed and I’s dotted if you pick up the phone and simply ask nicely your wire be hurried along you’d be shocked how well that works. Otherwise they have wires to process daily and it goes through a chain. Is it slower because they cut staff and are just too lazy to send 50 wires and only do 35? Highly doubt it, as stated it’s a chain, maybe it changed a bit, bottom line its secure, you get paid. Over the last 10-12 years I have seen and have been affected by change of ownership at multiple domain related businesses, it’s the nature of the beast. Slower and safer better than fast and loose.

Speed and service have fallen off a cliff. I’ve had transactions take up to 2 weeks to get paid. Phone lines are busy for hours, they’ll hang up the line after you’ve been on hold for 30 minutes, etc. They went from my favorite escrow services of the last 5 years to the worst. They still work but you can plan on a long long wait.

Same here. I had to chase and chase payment. I am really surprised. It just shows you how the escrow.com brand had established an attribute of trust that, for my part, was taken for granted. The service is now unreliable, or that is what my brain believes now, ie the brand is damaged. What happened to the former systems? Or were there none, and just good people and plenty of capacity to ensure a good (timely) service? I have gone back to sedo.com for transfers. It is SOOO frustrating to see an acquisition being screwed up like this. Why? There product is (was) trust. Don’t the new owners get that?
Nick says
Their service has gotten way worse , but there is no one else I trust. Sedo is just evil. Then there is //escrow.domains I see mentioned once in a blue moon. I have no idea if they are any good. So, I’m stuck with escrow.com

Nick,
Escrow.Domains or Escrowdomains.com is a DBA of Greenberg & Lieberman, LLC (see aplegal.com). We are a law firm that has been working in the domain name industry for almost 20 years and have been doing escrow transactions for almost that long.
The reality is, if something doesn’t work, then you should try something else. Just because you don’t know if we are any good doesn’t mean you should not give us a try. I honestly believe that our software is currently equal to or better than escrow.com’s (and it will get much better with lots of new and innovative bells and whistles (full api, full iframe affiliate implementation, more data, more ability for anonymous transactions, uploading of custom contracts, payment over time and more), and more importantly, my staff and I actually care about you and your transaction. Further, we are a law firm which I would hope would increase your comfort level.
Please give us a try. If you are not happy then please tell me why (I respond to emails pretty quickly) and will comp the service fee for that transaction.
Sincerely,
Stevan
