eName falls from over 1 million to under 100k new .com registrations.
Last month in the .Com Winners & Losers column I reported a startling shift: Chinese domain name registrar eName had knocked perennial leader GoDaddy out of the #1 spot.
It didn’t last long.
ICANN has published the latest .com transactions report from registry Verisign, showing official results from December 2015. GoDaddy is back on top. eName, which processed over one million new .com domain names in November, registered fewer than 100,000 in December.
Still, China’s influence can still be found on the latest leaderboard.
Here are the top 5 registrars in December in terms of new .com registrations:
1. GoDaddy* 836,111
2. HiChina 222,648
3. eNom** 197,249
4. PublicDomainRegistry 112,330
5. Tucows 86,544
eName had the most net inbound transfers during the December. Here are the top five registrars in that category:
1. eName +19,130
2. Uniregistry +17,360
3. Mesh Digital +11,332
4. HangZhou AiMing Network +11,111
5. Google +8,184
On the flip side, these five registrars saw the biggest net outflow of .com domain names due to transfers:
1. Tucows -22,885
2. Domain.com -15,155
3. Fabulous -12,381
4. GoDaddy -10,658
5. MelbourneIT -8,842
*Includes GoDaddy and Wild West Domains **Includes eNom and Name.com, but not dropcatching registrars.
