Reserved plates being released, just like reserved domains…
I received an email a few days ago from MyPlates, the company that administers the personalized (vanity) license plate program for Texas. Notice a similarity to what a lot of new top level domain name companies are doing?
Here’s what the email said:
Reserved Texas license plate messages up for grabs!
Today we are releasing a number of previously reserved license plate messages for immediate sale!
Some of these messages have previously been offered for sale by auction, some were reserved for marketing purposes and many of the 7-letter messages have never appeared on a Texas license plate before.
There are over 80 license plate messages that have been released in this first batch under the theme of GR8 PL8S FOR SALE!
Notable messages now available for purchase are TEXAS-15, AGGIES-15, BENGALS, THUNDER and WRX.
My Plates plans to add to the GR8 PL8S collection periodically with more reserve plates to offer Texans great plate messages that are ready to buy now!
(Under Texas law, you can’t post photos of license plates without the plate owner’s permission. Although these aren’t issued plates yet, they might be someday. So I’m not showing a picture of the plates here, but you can view them on this site.)

I tried to come up with a clever plate name for my Tesla. Everything was taken.

I registered “Layer 4” for my Florida license place. Layer 4 is the transport layer in the OSI model. I got the idea from a vanity license plate registered in a different state.

Vanity license plates are a way to tax bad taste.

The good news is there is no UDRP process for license plates.
