Search results on mobile devices to change one week from today.
Most people in the United States are making a last minute push to complete taxes, but another deadline is quickly approaching for website owners.
April 21 — just one week from now — is the date that Google will change its search results on mobile devices. The “significant” change will promote mobile-friendly content over content designed only for full browser screens.
Given the growth on mobile search and browsing, this is a big deal for most site operators.
You can easily check if a page is mobile friendly using this Google tool. If you have your site in Webmaster Tools, you’ve probably received a warning if your site is not mobile-friendly.

I expect big changes since they use the word “significant”, but those changes will only take effect on mobile search.

That’s true, but in many industries over half the traffic comes from mobile.

I dont see why bother on mobilizing site when most mobile phones right now are running on 1ghz processors which is the same specs as our PC and laptops. I think they are strong enough than it was years before why not just use our two fingers and just zoom it out.
Sam says
Because a lot of sites are designed to work on large 15″ screens and will thus have lots of problems on 4″ screens that can’t be fixed by simply zooming out, such as tiny text that requires panning to read or presentational boxes blocking content…

M. Menius says
@Tipster – I certainly agree. I have a site which performs very well in search and revenue. Google wants me to fix something that isn’t broken. Redesigning for mobile will be a major undertaking that I’m not looking forward to.
Mark Flanighan says
For Google to pre-announce this update, should tell you this is significant. And with more traffic in general coming from mobile devices, including tablets, many businesses will get caught out.
