Negari goes on NBC’s Press:Here to discuss .xyz and new top level domains.
Just over one year ago ICANN’s Akram Atallah went on NBC Bay Area’s Press:Here show to discuss new top level domain names.
The same program interviewed .XYZ founder Daniel Negari in a show published Friday. You can see the interview below. (Daniel is also this week’s Domain Name Wire podcast guest.)
Press:Here is a weekly roundtable that features Silicon Valley tech reporters. This past week Michal Lev-Ram of Fortune and Dylan Tweney of VentureBeat joined Press:Here host Scott McGrew.
I’d say they were fairly skeptical of new domain names. They asked Daniel why, if he’s sold 800,000 .xyz domain names, none of them have come across a site using .xyz?
It’s a good interview worth watching.
M. Menius says
Daniel did a pretty nice job fielding questions. Mostly good press. I would agree the sheer volume of registrations in .xyz seems counter intuitive. I believe long term adoption of new domains will be specifically driven by tld’s that add clarity and purpose to the overall string.
Andrea Paladini says
lol @ “1/3 of .xyz are being used” … that’s pure bs … unless for “used” you mean parked … while often they don’t even resolve …
He’s really a unscrupulous pitchman … but luckily lies have no legs, just wait and see … 🙂
Daniel Negari says
Please visit https://ntldstats.com/parking/tld and look at the Delta between the total number of domains and the ‘Parked domains’ This is from an independent third party, not us.
Andrea Paladini says
“Delta” there represents simply the number of domains that are not parked, it doesn’t mean that those domains are in use by some business/private.
Furthermore, over 50% of .xyz are parked and over 170,000 show a HTTP error …
Sorry, but your tricks don’t work with me … 🙂
Xavier Lemay-Castonguay says
thats pretty much 1/3….
You can hate .xyz but cant kill it success!

Xavier Lemay-Castonguay says
Stop blasting the .xyz.
I have seen a lot of new .xyz websites. Startups love them.
There is more live websites in .xyz than any other ngtlds. You can hate it but in this case, non investors are enjoying it.
If the public whant to use it why you hate it?
Sam says
Shame on you, Andrew, for allowing your guest to spew his .garbage on your reputable podcast. Disappointed in you. As a respected domain pro, you should have stepped up to the plate and told him what most others think: that he is wasting his money on this foolhardy escapade of his. At some point in the interview, you should have said “What the hell are you smoking, Dude?” It is rather clear that the gtlds are going down the toilet. Someone needs to break the news to him and other registries who continue to sponsor rollouts and auctions that not only is the party over, but that the invitations never even went out in the mail.
Adam says
“It takes more than a few months to build a website . . . complicated process . . .”
? ? ?
William says
Great interview. The .xyz team is doing a really good job of reaching end users and promoting the string.
And yes it takes more than a few months to develop and launch a web application of even moderate sophistication. Sure, you can make a wordpress blog for your cat videos in 30 minutes but I assume Daniel was discussing real applications being developed for real businesses.

Is this the same Daniel Negari I just read about on Rip Off Report? http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/Beverly-Hills-Mint-Berta-Negari-Daniel-Negari/Beverly-Hills-California-90211/Beverly-Hills-Mint-Berta-Negari-Daniel-Negari-BERTA-NEGARI-AND-DANIEL-NEGARI-BEVERLY-HI-446350
Domainer Extraordinaire says
By omission he implied that he has collected 800,000 X $8. Slick.
