5 more Uniregistry domain names go into general availability next week. And for one of them, .click, Frank Schilling is taking a different strategy when it comes to holding back domain names.
In previous launches, Schilling’s companies have registered thousands — even tens out thousands — of names ahead of general availability launch. That left frustrated domainers searching through the scraps. This was especially notable because Shilling said last January they they wouldn’t hold many domains back.
With .click, the registry is only holding back single character domains. Also, because .Click has already passed the “controlled interruption” period for name collisions, there won’t be a block list there.
In other words, a free-for-all. No premium pricing, no names held back.
Retail prices will also be $6.88 or less, Schilling says.
It will be interesting to see how this affects early registration numbers.

There are several reserved. The names that would have to do with the extension like domains.click, buy.click etc.
So there is a blocked list.

OK, under a hundred.

The shine is off. Everyone is disillussioned. Frank could as well keep it all.
Domainer Extraordinaire says
Frank has had enough of registering worthless domain names.

Imagine if there is a downturn in this economy? All I see is alotta flammable tinder [gtlds] for which there will be an inevitable spark. I expect all this drek to burn to a crisp.

My gut feeling if the house doesn’t want them, they do not see much value in them going forward also. Click is on the wrong side of the dot, cuts down the possible uses.

I picked about a dozen domains at random on GoDaddy, it said they were available for Pre-Order, and put them all into the shopping cart.
The transaction seemed routine, until the last page, where it said that “The basket contained domains that are unavailable. Those domains have been removed.”
It didn’t mention specifics, but in the end, I saw the total price was about $6.99, so 11 out of the 12 never went through. I didn’t even bother to look for the email confirming which one. I’m guessing if they aren’t holding anything back his strategy is working, because a lot of good stuff is gone.

Surprisingly, it seems Frank does not always get the best names in his own new tld’s; i.e. noticed people on the web asking today “When Is Black Friday” (I’m not a shopper and didn’t know myself), so instantly thought WhenIs.backfriday would be an excellent domain (especially when indexed in search engines so a search would go to the site). Assumed at least a 95% chance owned by Frank so was real surprised to see it taken by someone else months ago and listed for sale, forwarded to a domainnamesales.com lander.
David says
Above is of course a typo. Should have said WhenIs.blackfriday
Domenclature.com says
@David,
Chances are that any typo could indeed be a new gTLD.
There’re so many out there.

.click isn’t very commercial compared to, say .sexy – .click lends itself to a few keyword hacks but that’s about it e.g. Double.click
Andrew Allemann says
I have mixed feelings about .click. On the one hand, I don’t think it’s a great generic to put a website on. On the other, I wonder if it will make people click more. Would .click help with CTR on Google ads? What if you used it as a URL shortener in social media?
Domain Guru says
I feel as though seeing the word .click sort of subconsciously makes you want to click. Do you remember eBay back in the day, where auctions always had CLICK or LOOK in the title to grab attention?

As of 10minutes ago, it is still a junk yard …. very disappointed, i had the perception he was a good.link between the small and the sharks …

I grabbed just a few, including “YouAndI.Click” and “UandI.Click”.
The thing is, like a lot of these generic TLDs, I have no idea who will even notice them.
