In a world of iPods and iPads, why iWealth.com is worth money requires little explanation. Bidding for that expired domain came in just shy of $12k last week at NameJet — with retirement planning and personal investing being its most obvious applications.
I’m less persuaded that TranscendUSA.com was good value at $6.5k. Not to knock transcendence, but a “USA” suffix can feel tacked on. Usually it’s the mark of brands looking to cut corners on domain selection — to transcend the “Sorry, [your domain] is not available” message at the registrar by settling for whatever is at hand. Be that as it may, bidders were probably motivated by back links not branding in this case. TranscendUSA.com sold flash memory devices in years gone by.

TheFlame.com ($2.1k) and GetCrazy.com ($1.6k) deserved the attention they got. Untangler.com may have sold for much less ($260), but some problem-solving business ought to find it appealing.
SolarEnterprises.com ($131) suggests .ENTERPRISES. But that domain was eclipsed by the GoDaddy sale of SolarSearch.com at $560. I feel sorry for the buyer of MortageDirect.com ($292). Years ago, I spent nearly as much on the same nonexistent “G” due to haste.
You’d be surprised how many websites use the archaic English word “Terrene” as part of their domain name: TerreneLiving.com, TerreneVentures.com, TerreneOdyssey.com, TerreneHomes.com, Terrene.biz, TerreneOfNE.com, TerreneGin.com, even TerreneHookah.com! So why not Terrene.org for $272, after all?
The Arabic domain AlQasas.com ($71) used to be a website for fictional stories. As it happens, that’s also the name of a Surah (or chapter) within the Qur’an, which tells the tale of Moses, enjoins beneficence and condemns oppression.
Hopefully 4-Government.com reached nearly $4.6k at GoDaddy on account of its back-link profile, for otherwise the domain has nothing much to recommend it. BlueSpot.com ($4.7k) is better. With NetPets.com we have an appealing rhyme, yet I wonder what beyond funny cat videos pets can offer on the net. Playing fetch on the world-wide web isn’t an option, but maybe ordering chew toys is.
Yes, a 1-year-old .MOBI saw bids of $3k, along with over $1.2k for GoCSV.mobi. I learned the hard way that CoiChutThoi.mobi is a Vietnamese gay porn site. (You’re welcome.) So if that’s not your thing, take my word for it. Sexual preferences aside, you definitely ought to avoid 2 domains that gave me full-screen crimson malware warnings: TheMysticEye.com ($305) and HauntedTimes.com ($225). Meanwhile, FGoogle.com cycles through various zero-click advertisers, occasionally including objectionable popups.
CFOC.org dates back to 1996 as “Campaign For Our Children”. Although it’s a shame to see domains like that expire, 20 years is a good run. FearPVP.net ($2.1k) was related to servers and the video game MineCraft. MostFun.com ($1.4k) looks promising. And Emplear.com? That $1.3k purchase is exactly what it sounds like — Spanish for employing someone and for finding a job. Definitely undervalued.

Most domain investors will appreciate DOTS.org ($1k). After all, we think about dots more than anybody, right? Another .ORG you may not recognize until you see it on the bumper of a car. That fish-shaped Christian symbol is called the Ichthus.org ($105).
IslamDirectory.com ($280) and IslamDaily.com ($248), which both went to auction last week, are a noticeable pair. The same goes for CafesParis.com ($455) and CafesFrance.com ($260). Ditto MysticHerbs.com ($100) and IncenseToday.com ($248).
LivingCool.com ($760) sounds like me. CustomerIQ.com ($130) is something many retailers would prefer to have less of. Mixies.com ($385) makes an attractive brand name for consumer products. DeadPeasantInsurance.com ($355) probably does not.
Modelistica.com looks to have been renewed in spite of its $786 auction result, since a Spanish website is currently up and running. Which reminds me of one of the domains from last week that I wish I’d bought: RunLikeTheWind.com ($190). It’s an obvious winner for runners. Some of you 3D aficionados may feel the same way about Try3D.com ($95). Who says all the good .COM domains are either in use or unaffordable?
Quality opportunities notwithstanding, the charts above actually contain one of the worst puns I’ve ever seen in my life. Can anybody spot it?

“I’m less persuaded that TranscendUSA.com was good value at $6.5k”
Three minutes of research shows that TranscendUSA.com was probably bought by the users of Twitter handle Transcend_USA who use transcend-info.com as their main site. With 14 offices worldwide, 2000 products and over 30 million in sales I think 6500 bucks is a drop in the bucket. Their main page is a choose which country you are searching from page and then connects from there. Using the USA suffix is not unusual when large companies want a direct connection to that market.
Andrew Allemann says
Hmm… But an auction price of $6500 would imply that 2 people were willing to pay $6k plus for the domain, right?
todd says
Sure. One who wants it and the other who is bidding up his own name.
Joseph Peterson says
You may be right about the buyer’s identity. Isn’t that the same company I identified as the previous owner? Transcend-info.com sells memory cards as well. So if they’re the buyer, then they were competing to recover their own expired domain.
3 minutes of research x 200+ domains = 10+ hours of labor. I don’t pretend to be that thorough!
Daniel says
Do you think RunLikeTheWind.com will make the big sales charts one day? I think it’s a steal at $190, but the fact that it’s 4 words long could be a big negative. However, there have been some long keyword domain sales over the past year in the headlines…. interesting one.
