MLB buys domain name for Cubs and other end user domain name purchases.
The Chicago Cubs (technically MLB Advanced Media, L.P.) were among those companies buying domain names last week.
The team and Major League Baseball paid $1,700 for MyCubs.com. This is the name of their season ticket holder portal.
It looks like MLB uses this same name for more clubs (e.g. MyBrewers) , which means MLB might try to acquire the other domain names.
Here are other domain names sold to “end users” via GoDaddy/Afternic last week. (View previous end user sales here.)
EveryDayCounts.com $40,000 – The owner of every-day-counts.com dropped the hyphens for a mere forty grand.
WeedShops.com $18,000 – Colorado marijuana store Frosted Leaf. Business must be good.
TryAll.com $2,000 – Tryall Club, a Jamaica country club. It uses TryAllClub.com. While it’s buying domains it might want to pick up TryAll.club.
Best-Body.com $4,995 – Diet and nutrition company Fitnesshotline GmbH. It runs the website best-body-nutrition.com.
AllegiantTheMovie.com $1,000 – Law firm Sheppard Mullin bought this, presumably for someone involved with the planned movie.
GuidesForBrides.com $3,100 – UK wedding site GuidesForBrides.co.uk
UberRX.com $2,000 – The email address on the whois is for American Telehealth Network. Hopefully this isn’t for healthcare delivered to your home because I think they’d run into some trademark issues.
FlyteLine.com $4,000 – Flyte Tyme Limousine
CandCalifornia.com – Trademark protection company The Treadstone Group, Inc.
MyCubs.com $1,700 – Major League Baseball. This is for their season ticket portal. It looks like they have this for more teams, which means MLB might try to acquire the others.
Edvolution.com $4,999 – Education services company School Improvement Network
StoneGateDirect.com $4,000 – Stonegate Mortgage Corporation in Indianapolis
ChurchOnMission.com $3,000 – Parkview Christian Church in Orland Park, Illinois.

FairwayLawnService.com $1,200 – The owner of FairwayLawnService.net also upgraded to .com.
TaxiDog.com $2,288 – Taxi Dog Educational LLC, which offers an educational program for children. Sure beats their existing domain TaxiDogedu.org.
TPEX.org $3,096 – National Renewable Energy Laboratory, part of the U.S. Department of Energy, bought this domain for its Technology Performance Exchange.
BookBookBook.com $2,500 – this is an interesting one courtesy of British company BookBookBook Ltd.

Good Catch.
Maybe, they really didn’t go away.

MyCubs price seems pretty cheap, though maybe it could’ve degraded into a UDRP situation (if the seller got too greedy).
